Proposed changes to the System for Award Management (SAM), from the General Services Administration are being considered now that would require nonprofit applicants and other recipients of federal financial assistance to sign new certifications under penalty of criminal and civil law.

The proposed changes are vague and complex, making it nearly impossible for nonprofits to know whether they are in compliance. Nonprofits could be wrongfully accused of noncompliance and would have to spend an enormous amount of staff time and resources defending themselves in audits, investigations, and court.

The public comment period is open through March 30. Sign onto a national letter opposing the proposed changes. This is not good policy for the nonprofit sector or the communities they serve.

The National Council of Nonprofits and Legal Defense Fund invite organizations nationwide to sign onto a national letter opposing proposed changes to federal grantees that would harm nonprofits and communities.

The board of the Piatt County Nursing Home Foundation gathered this past Saturday for a day-long training to learn from the GOAT, Laura Huth-Rhoades how to build deeper impact for their community outreach and fundraising efforts. And oh boy was it ever time well spent!

In just one day, the nonprofit has seen followers on Facebook soar by 2,620% with 136 new followers. Views are up by over 500% and engagement by a whopping 2,557%. Social media was but one area of focus for the training -- the group also learned a host of other great tactics for raising awareness, all focused on raising more money to support the residents living in the Piatt County Nursing Home and Maple Point - An Affordable Assisted Living Community centers they support.

"I really feel empowered and ready to go," said one board member after the training. "I saw today that I can make a difference and that together we can really get great things done for the Foundation. I'm excited!"
