Proposed changes to the System for Award Management (SAM), from the General Services Administration are being considered now that would require nonprofit applicants and other recipients of federal financial assistance to sign new certifications under penalty of criminal and civil law.
The proposed changes are vague and complex, making it nearly impossible for nonprofits to know whether they are in compliance. Nonprofits could be wrongfully accused of noncompliance and would have to spend an enormous amount of staff time and resources defending themselves in audits, investigations, and court.
The public comment period is open through March 30. Sign onto a national letter opposing the proposed changes. This is not good policy for the nonprofit sector or the communities they serve.
The National Council of Nonprofits and Legal Defense Fund invite organizations nationwide to sign onto a national letter opposing proposed changes to federal grantees that would harm nonprofits and communities.
