🎓 Congratulations to Our 41 TVET Graduates in Burao!

Today marks an important milestone for 41 young graduates — 20 male and 21 female — who successfully completed three months of TVET training in Burao.

Through the partnership between Waafi Hub and Shaqodoon Organization, with funding from SIDA under the Somalia Resilience Programme (SomReP), the graduates completed practical training in Core Life Skills, Electrical Skills, Makeup, and Henna, equipping them with market-relevant skills and pathways toward employment and self-employment.

As part of today’s graduation and handover ceremony, the graduates received certificates of completion as well as electrical and makeup starter kits to help them immediately apply their skills, start earning income, and build sustainable livelihoods.

The ceremony brought together government, private-sector, civil society, and development representatives, including:

Representatives from Shaqodoon Organization, Waafi Hub, and private-sector companies

The distinguished guests shared encouraging remarks with the graduates, emphasizing the importance of technical skills, entrepreneurship, employment, and youth participation in economic development, before presenting the graduates with their certificates and starter kits.

Importantly, private-sector companies attending the ceremony pledged to provide job and internship opportunities for the graduates, creating a stronger bridge between TVET training and real employment opportunities and supporting the graduates as they transition from training into the labour market.

At Waafi Hub, we believe skills development becomes more impactful when young people are also connected with the tools, opportunities, private-sector linkages, and market pathways needed to turn their skills into sustainable livelihoods.

The BDS Training has officially started today in Kismayo and Galka’ayo, bringing together staff from IBS Bank, MicroDahab MFI, and Mercy Corps.

Following the successful completion of the BDS Trainings in Mogadishu and Hargeisa, this new round expands the training to additional locations, strengthening the capacity of financial institution staff to provide practical Business Development Services to clients.

The training focuses on improving facilitation skills, business coaching, mentorship, financial literacy, business planning, bookkeeping, marketing, customer management, loan utilization, and repayment support.

Through this initiative, financial institution staff will be better equipped to support MSMEs, livestock actors, and small business clients before, during, and after investment, helping improve business performance, loan utilization, and repayment outcomes.

We are pleased to the successful completion of the Second Phase of the BDS Training in Mogadishu, implemented in partnership with Mercy Corps and funded by Sida - Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete.

This phase focused on supporting financial institutions to embed coaching and mentorship across the investment cycle, from loan appraisal and disbursement to post-investment follow-up, while also strengthening the BDS facilitation skills of their staff.

The training built on Phase 1 and the field implementation experience of staff from IBS Bank, MicroDahab-MFI, and Mercy Corps. Through this process, participants strengthened their practical facilitation skills and gained BDS tools, templates, techniques, and approaches that can be integrated into financial services.

The trained financial institution staff are now better equipped to provide practical business development support to clients, improve loan utilization, strengthen portfolio quality, and support sustainable enterprise growth for both SMEs and financial institutions.

The second phase of the BDS Training is underway in Hargeisa, bringing together staff from IBS Bank, MicroDahab-MFI, and Mercy Corps.

Building on the successful completion of Phase 1, the trainers have completed more than 30 days of field implementation with financial institution staff, applying practical BDS support directly with clients and livestock sector actors.

This second phase focuses on further strengthening BDS facilitation skills, coaching, and mentorship practices, with a strong emphasis on embedding client support across the full investment cycle from loan appraisal and disbursement to post-investment follow-up.

By integrating coaching and mentorship into financial services, participating institutions will be better equipped to support livestock enterprises, improve loan utilization, reduce repayment risks, and promote sustainable business growth.
