Allenspark volunteers joined forces with mutual aid agencies to fight the Dry Creek Fire today. Ground and air resources fought the fire during the day while crews will remain onsite overnight and continue working the fire tomorrow.

Dry Saint Vrain Trail / Conifer Hill Fire update from USFS.

Oct. 8, 1:30 p.m. update: The Dry Creek Fire is 100% contained.

Oct. 7, 6:45 p.m update: Crews made good progress securing the fire perimeter and bringing containment up to 85%. Mop-up operations will continue tomorrow and throughout the week with warm and dry conditions forecasted.

Some areas of the fire are located in steep, hazardous terrain that is unsafe for crews to access. Smoke and isolated flames may be visible in these areas until weather conditions improve and help extinguish remaining hot spots.

Oct. 7, 11:30 a.m. update: The fire is now 50% contained. Crews remain actively engaged on the incident, using hose lay to support mop up operations. Firefighters are also conducting snagging work to improve firefighter safety.

6:30 p.m update: Acreage and containment are unchanged. The incident will remain staffed overnight, with additional resources expected to arrive in the morning to support continued operations.

3:30 p.m. update: Forward progress has been stopped and remains at 6 acres. Containment is now 25% with line established around the fire. Crews are still working on getting hose fully in place to support containment efforts.

12:45 p.m. update: Hand crews are establishing direct hand lines and effectively slowing the fire’s forward progress. Air resources are engaged along the active fire edge where containment lines are not yet in place, conducting targeted retardant and water drops. Size remains around 6 acres.

Forest and county fire resources are responding to the Dry Creek Fire in Boulder County, southeast of South Sheep Mountain and north of Highway 7 on the Roosevelt National Forest. The fire is currently estimated at 6 acres in size. Resources are on scene and air resources will be operating in the area to provide water support.

Update: The road has reopened one-way.

Highway 7 is currently closed at mile marker 24 due to an accident. It will remain closed for the next few hours.

A reminder - - - proper disposal of ashes.

Cool: Let ashes sit in the fireplace/wood stove for 2 to 4 days (at least 96 hours) before moving them, as hot embers can stay active for days.

Metal Tools: Scoop the ashes using a metal shovel and place them directly into a covered metal bucket or metal trash can. Never use plastic containers, paper bags, or cardboard boxes.

Wet: Add water to the metal bucket to thoroughly extinguish any hidden hot spots.

Storage: Move the metal container outside on a non-combustible surface (like concrete or brick) at least 10 to 15 feet away from your house, garage, wood decks, or plants.

Final Disposal: Once fully cooled and soaked for at least a week, you can safely empty the ashes.

Allenspark Fire crews spent over two hours and approximately 100 gallons of water (in the middle of the night) to extinguish a duff fire caused by improperly disposed ashes.

9/11/2026 - 4:30 pm - Forestry work occurring in the area of Ironclad Road is kicking up dust. This is not a wildfire. The work will be ongoing over the next few days.

UPDATE AS OF 9/9/2026

Larimer County and Boulder County have now reduced their Fire Restrictions to Stage 1. Also, US Forest Service land is at Stage 1.

A lot of you have been asking how our crews are doing/did on the Ironclad Fire. We're glad it was manageable and it's over and grateful for all of the mutual aid agencies who came so quickly to help. And for all of the volunteers who put their lives on hold to do so. The response required for a confirmed smoke report is basically all hands on deck. It's so much more than the crews on the ground.

Dispatch notifies the firefighters and gets them going to the reported area. Local firefighters visually locate the smoke and determine its exact location then coordinate a response. Without vehicle access firefighters hike to the scene with tools, PPE and water packs. They dig line to contain the spread.

While this is happening station crews coordinate incoming firefighters, take calls, update the media, monitor the radios and get the firefighters food. Staging crews coordinate operations. This is not a complete list.

Ten Allenspark volunteers were on scene at the fire and staging, three worked the station, one acted as lookout, and an additional two responded to a possible accident that occurred during that time. The call came in around 1 pm, crews returned to the station around 8pm, then they rehabbed (cleaned and replaced) equipment so they'd be ready when and if another call came in. All on a work day. Then they got up the next day and went back to work.

How are we? Recovering but happy to be a part of something so fulfilling and meaningful. Thank you for asking ☺️

What's going on at the station today? Pump testing!

Each year we test the pumps in our engines and tenders to make sure water supply is sufficient when we need it, and to comply with regulations. Brush trucks are tested biannually. It takes about two days to complete and at least one member is present to oversee the testing and move the trucks into position for the third-party tester.
