We kicked off Fire Prevention Week today with a visit to a fantastic group of students! We enjoyed our time sharing fire safety tips and showing them our trucks and equipment πŸš’. Special thanks to Katie Tobias State Farm Insurance Agent for the donated materials and to firefighters Dunlap, Karr, Leonard, Doyle, and Lt. Irvin for sharing their time with the students β€οΈπŸš’. Stay tuned for more as we head to Hillcrest Elementary School tomorrow for more education and fun with their students.

Gratiot County Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey

🚨 GRATIOT COUNTY β€” WE NEED YOUR INPUT! 🚨

Gratiot County Emergency Management is asking residents, businesses, and community partners to help with the update of the Gratiot County Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP).

The Hazard Mitigation Plan helps our communities prepare for natural hazards by identifying potential risks, evaluating areas of vulnerability, and developing strategies to reduce the short- and long-term impacts of disasters on people, property, and critical infrastructure.

Having an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan also helps Gratiot County and our local municipalities remain eligible for potential state and federal hazard mitigation grant funding that can be used to make our communities safer and more resilient.

🏠 YOUR INPUT MATTERS!

Public participation is an essential part of this planning process. We want to hear directly from the people who live, work, own businesses, and serve our communities throughout Gratiot County.

Your responses will help:

β€’ Identify the hazards that concern our residents
β€’ Better understand community risks and vulnerabilities
β€’ Identify preparedness and mitigation priorities
β€’ Improve public and private coordination
β€’ Develop strategies to reduce the impacts of future disasters
β€’ Strengthen emergency preparedness throughout Gratiot County

⏱️ The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

πŸ“… SURVEY DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1, 2026

πŸ‘‰ COMPLETE THE SURVEY HERE:
https://forms.gle/978zAnRsWuWNFXA7A

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and then SHARE THIS POST with your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, businesses, and community organizations.

The more participation we receive, the better the Hazard Mitigation Plan can reflect the needs and priorities of the people and communities of Gratiot County.

Thank you for helping Gratiot County Emergency Management make our county safer, stronger, and better prepared for the future!

Thank you Morgan for all of the great things you did for our community! You will be missed πŸš’β€οΈ

Today is my last day with the City of Alma as my grant-funded term comes to an end. It is hard to sum up what the experience of this job has meant to me, but I hope it suffices to say that I have been honored to connect with this community and have learned so much from all of you. I am extremely proud of what we created.

In 2024, I started managing this account with 25 followers and a list of big ideas we hoped could become a reality. It turned into something bigger and more exciting than I could have imagined for a small town. I found that so many people in this town care about building community and are willing to show up and have fun together. The recreation program was a widely collaborative effort, and I am very thankful for each person who helped along the way.

The end of this grant is not the end of Alma Parks & Recreation. We built community partnerships that are key for continuing recreation programs, and city staff will continue to pursue grant funding to bring more opportunities to Alma. This page will continue serve as a place for updates about future programs.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this chapter. I am leaving with very special memories, and I am grateful to have started my career by serving the Alma community.

All the best,

Morgan Most
City of Alma Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator
(aka, the parks lady)
