I had the privilege of meeting with environmental activist Erin Brockovich today, engaging in deep conversations about Altadena’s future, the environmental impact of recent events, and the road to rebuilding. What stood out is the clear understanding that this will take more than just resources—it will take resilience, determination, and resourcefulness.

But above all, it will take UNITY.

We must unite all of Altadena, or we risk being consumed by outside interests and profit-driven agendas. Together, we have the strength to protect and rebuild our community with a shared vision and purpose. The time to organize and collaborate is now. Let’s ensure Altadena stands strong.

This morning, I had the honor of meeting with the Reverend Al Sharpton and The National Action Network This morning, I had the honor of meeting with the great Reverend Al Sharpton and his incredible team at The National Action Network to discuss the rebuilding of Altadena. We shared stories of our town’s rich, multicultural history—a history of resilience, diversity, and unity. I had the chance to brief him on the challenges we face today and the strength of a community determined to rise.

Altadena is more than a place; it’s a spirit of perseverance, and having Reverend Sharpton’s support in this effort is a testament to the power of collective action.

Thank you, Reverend Sharpton, for standing with us as we build a future worthy of our past.

Together, we move forward.

(FEMA will be discussing debris removal at the Community Gathering on February 5, 2025 at La Canada Congressional Church at 6:00 PM, 1200 Foothill Blvd. La Canada) www.thealtadena.com

Here is my analysis

It is imperative that all homeowners whose properties have been affected by fire opt in to Phase 2 cleanup. Participation is completely free for residents, regardless of whether you have insurance.

Please note that FEMA will only seek reimbursement if your insurance policy includes a specific deductible for debris removal—this may trigger subrogation. Based on our review of standard homeowner policies, the typical deductible is around 5% of the dwelling’s value, which often falls short of covering the full expenses—especially when foundation removal is necessary.

We encourage everyone to take advantage of this program to ensure proper cleanup and mitigate potential financial gaps in your coverage.
