Soil testing north of Seneca Falls at the Northern Montezuma Wildlife Management Area last week. The work was undertaken to establish the geological context of buried archaeological deposits discovered below the water last year. Artifacts found included fish spear parts, net weights, arrowheads, and pottery dating from ca. 4,500 BC to AD 1300. The site, located along the banks of the Seneca River, was once a large fishing village.

I am happy to see that wearing mandatory hard hats and high-vis clothing extends to our brethren paleontologists scientists conducting fieldwork in England. You can’t be too careful around space debris or incompetent drone pilots.

Yesterday about 10 minutes from totality, mid/afternoon. Near Seneca Falls, NY. Became black as night and could see planets on the horizon. Hard to find words to describe the experience. Sometimes you can be at the right place at the right time.

Emergency excavations at the Lewis Central School Site, a Late Archaic ossuary overlooking the Missouri River Valley near Council Bluffs, Iowa. That's my buddy Louis Moscoso on the ladder and Mike Finn excavating in the background. All Univ. of Iowa students. I'm on the left with camera. Took place in late November, 1975.

Tensions have been simmering over plans for a new addition to a beloved Olmsted park: A memorial for African Americans whose nearby burial ground was taken over by municipal projects.
