Linda D Newman Genealogy Services

Linda D Newman Genealogy Services I have been doing genealogy since 1995. I am knowledgeable about genealogy research and many types of records, I wish to help others discover their family.

I have been doing genealogy research since 1995. I have learned much about genealogy research and a variety of record types from doing research on my own family as well as from helping friends and family research their families.. I am not an expert in all areas, but am a genealogy buff. I have access to ancestry.com world version and findmypast world version. My goal is to help others discover mor

e of their family history. Rates:
$20.00 an hour, charged in 15 minute increments. Included in fee: Research done using services I am subscribed to and local resources, plus an emailed report and digital copies of any documents found.

10¢ a page, plus cost of postage, for paper copy of report and/or documents.

$8.75 per film if I need to rent a microfilm from the Family History Center. I will let you know before I request any films to get your approval.

$20 per hour for travel time if I have to travel more than 15 miles.

$20.00 per hour for private lessons on how to do genealogy research. We will meet in a public place that has internet service. I will walk you through the basics of doing your family tree. Before I start any work, we will contract for the number of hours I will work and exactly what research I will be doing, it will also include any required traveling. I will also include a date of when I will complete your research. This contract is so you will know how much the project will cost, and I will know how many hours maximum I should work on your project. A deposit of 50% of the contracted fees will be required before I start any work. Payment may be made by money order or by Paypal. Cash is also an option if we meet in person, but please DO NOT mail cash. Keep in mind, some things are relatively easy to find, others are more difficult. Unfortunately, there are some things that are just not possible to find. No matter what the results are, you will receive a report detailing what records I searched and what I found. Even if I don’t find what you are hoping I will find, you are responsible for paying the agreed upon fees. Resources I have available:
Ancestry.com World Version (subscription site)
FindMyPast.com World Version (subscription site)
GenealogyBank.com (subscription site)
FamilySearch.org (free site)
Modoc County Records

I was playing around on WikiTree, and messed up...

I was playing with a theory and then realized I had made an assumption that was wrong. On Ancestry you just delete that person's profile, you can't delete profiles on WikiTree.

Instead you take off wrong info as possible and disconnect from wrong family members but then leave it in case that profile belongs to someone else.

Lesson learned... if I want to play with a theory do it on Ancestry, not Wiki Tree.

One thing I learned from "Using DNA To Solve Interlinked Mysteries" by Michelle Leonard on FamilyTreeWebinars, was to use create and use a Master Research tree that is set to Private and unsearchable. That using just one research tree instead of multiple research trees makes it easier to figure out where people might match up.

So I have started a new research tree and am starting fresh on researching the matches I don't know how they fit, yet.

She also suggested using a 1 letter code for the DNA test company and the amount shared DNA, and to be sure to use the DNA Match tag. She also suggested using a custom field to put in the amount of shared dna, and if there are other's you are using to help identify put their amount of shared dna in that fact area.

In addition I am using a dna match icon for the profile picture of my dna matches, all these things help me quickly identify who shares dna with me.

I have been watching a webinar called "Using DNA To Solve Interlinked Mysteries" by Michelle Leonard on FamilyTreeWebinars.

Really interesting, lots of information. I am going to have to watch it probably at least 2 more times to fully grasp what she is saying. One, like I said, she is presenting a LOT of information and because of the time constraint of the webinar she is going pretty quickly in her delivery. The other issue is she is from Scotland and has a fairly strong accent and I keep getting distracted by the accent :)

For those who are interested it is Free through June 8, 2022, otherwise you will have to have a membership to FamilyTreeWebinars to watch it.

Where are you in your genealogy research journey?

Complete novice? Interested but haven’t actually done any research?

Beginner? Maybe added a couple of names, dates and places; but really not sure what you are doing or what comes next?

Intermediate? You have spent some time doing basic research, but know there are a lot more things you can do to research the people in your tree; however, not real confident of the how and where to look.

Genealogy Buff, like me? You have your tree fairly well developed; confident in the basics and comfortable with other records and methods to flesh out the people beyond names, dates and places. Membership to at least 1 organization/group, and/or a subscription to at least 1 publication. Shelf full of genealogy books. Watch videos and podcasts on the subject. Willing to help others just so you can learn new techniques. Think about becoming a certified genealogist.

Expert/Professional? You have been paid for doing research or teaching a class on some aspect of genealogy/family history and/or are a Certified Genealogist.
