In a very competitive field of 35+ Envirothon teams across Kentucky, Warren County/WKU Schools had 4 teams out of 15 that made it to the state competition at the North Central 4H Camp in Carlisle, KY. Out of 10 medals 🥇 handed out, our teams took home 7 of them!

🥇 The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science Envirothon team placed 1st overall and is headed to the National Envirothon Competition in New Brunswick Canada in July! They received 1st place in forestry, wildlife and current issue.

🏅 Our South Warren FFA Envirothon team placed 1st in the FFA competition and 2nd overall. They will now move on to the National FFA Envirothon Competition in Indianapolis, IN. They received 1st place in soils and 4th place in forestry.

🏅 Our Greenwood FFA Envirothon Team made a great showing and placed 2nd in forestry.

🏅 Our Gatton Academy Jr Envirothon Team placed 8th overall and placed 5th in forestry.

I’m so proud of these kids with all the hard work they have put into this competition and with what they have accomplished this year. It was an honor to work with them in the field of forestry and I look forward to being with them as they represent Kentucky at the National Envirothon Competition. We spent the week in Ohio with the WKU Gatton Academy Envirothon team as they competed in the National Envirothon Competition against 41 teams from all across the country and Canada. They didn’t come in first place but made a great showing against teams that make it to this level every year. Watching these teams study so hard and prepare for every event with the same intensity a football team prepares for a game was exciting to watch. There was nobody in the stands cheering them on, no pep rallies, just team motivation and determination. These younger generations get a bad wrap for a lot of things (some deservedly so) but these kids are the exception. So proud of the WKU Gatton Academy Envirothon team, they all have a bright future ahead of them. Warren County Conservation District Penny Jo Warwick The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science

To just say I’m proud of these kids doesn’t give them enough credit. They are amazing, hard working and competitive. WKU Gatton Academy and Greenwood High School battled against the best teams from across the state. The WKU Gatton Academy took first place and will advance to the National Envirothon competition in Columbus, Ohio in July. Although the Greenwood team didn’t win, for this to be their first ever Envirothon team just making it to the state competition was an awesome feat in itself. Both teams deserve to be acknowledged for their efforts. I enjoyed working with them so much and look forward to meeting back up with the WKU Gatton team in Columbus this July! It’s game time! Today and tomorrow the WKU Gatton Academy and Greenwood Gators Envirothon teams will be competing against 10 other teams from across Kentucky for the state title at the North Central 4H Camp in Nicholas County. Since there’s only 1 winning team, only one of our teams can win. If one of them win they go to the national championship to compete for best Envirothon team in the country in July. We are so proud of these students and all of their hard work! Wish them luck!

I was honored to work with the Greenwood High School Envirothon teams this weekend at Berea College Forest teaching them different aspects of Forestry, preparing them for the East Region Envirothon competition at Maywoods Environmental and Educational Laboratory in Garrard County on Saturday/yesterday. In their first ever competition, Greenwood had five students advance to the State Competition in Nicholas County in a couple of weeks! I look forward to working with these wonderful students as they prepare to bring home the state FFA Envirothon championship! Warren County Conservation District

Sitting on the backporch watching the "cotton" blow around in the wind. The "cotton" you see flying around in the air right now is mostly from the eastern cottonwood tree not lint from your dryer vent 😁. A mature eastern cottonwood tree can produce 25 million seeds.

Saw my first 17 year cicada on the back porch this afternoon. The 17 year cicada are the longest lived insect known. How they know 17 years have passed is a mystery. There can be millions of them per acre so let the music begin!

Facebook is not our game but we've had several requests for our outdoor adventure posts to offset...... the other stuff. Beautiful, remote area yesterday that pictures and videos couldn't capture. Where is Ginseng, KY? Just another cool little dot on the map where the hustle and bustle are lost, beautiful scenery surrounds you and the craziness of the world disappears. Like always I'm thankful my occupation allows me to visit these places.
