Competition vs Tactical

Some will say shooting competition isn’t real life and will get you killed, and they’re right in one aspect. Competition isn’t real life. But it also won’t get you killed. It teaches you performance under stress. Where else can you feel the rush of competing against other shooters and the clock without being in an actual gunfight?

Competition teaches you how to drive your eyes and your gun. Competition teaches you how to transition target to target without overdriving the gun past your engagement area. Competition teaches you how to plan and move and how to shift your plan if it starts to fall apart. Competition teaches you how to problem solve at the speed of life.

Is competition real life, no. Can it prepare you for real life, absolutely. Just use it for what it is, a tool to sharpen your edge. To give you an advantage.

Competition teaches you that the difference between winning and losing is decided in tenths or hundredths of a second. It teaches you how to be faster than the guy next to you. How much time do you have in a real gunfight? The rest of your life. Learn to shave those seconds off. Hit first.

JD Reining participated in the Cotton Greg Memorial Steel Challenge and placed 1st in the LE division & 6th overall out of 86 shooters. His son Kohen Reining - Junior Competitive Shooter was 1st in junior, 6th in Carry optics overall out of 22 shooters and 2nd in Carry optics C division.

There are no days off when you are a parent & this weekend was no exception for Jake & his son. On Saturday Jake’s son, Kohen, participated in the Cotton Gregg Memorial Steel Challenge. Kohen shot amazing, some of the best he’s ever done & he did it with his dad there by his side encouraging him the whole way. Good job Kohen!
