Fires were burning everywhere you looked yesterday and still continue today.
First and foremost we want to thank all our first responders and especially those brave firefighters who put their lives on the line to protect others in the paths of these infernos and fight to defend lives and property for all. May God stand with you and look out after you all during these struggles.
Second, we’d like to give some advice on how to determine mitigating the ash or odors that may have infiltrated your home or office from these fires.
Here’s a few ways you can inspect your home or office for smoke or soot damage.
1. You can use the old white glove/rag test to determine just how much soot or ash you may or may not have in your home or office. Wipe some flat surfaces with a dry white rag and see how much grey or black dust like particles show on the white rag. This will help determine the level of soot or ash infiltration in your property. If there’s heavy grey or black coloration, then you may need professional assistance to mitigate the area.
2. Remove the filter from your AC and inspect for the same grey or black looking particles. Again, if it’s heavy, you may need professional assistance.
3. If you feel like you need a professional opinion, call us for a free evaluation of your property.
If odor seems to be your biggest problem, there are a couple things to consider.
1. With the freshly burnt grounds in the area, odors will continue to be present inside and out until we see some moisture to help absorb the ash into the ground and let the odors fade.
2. You can utilize HEPA and charcoal filtered air scrubbers to capture floating particles within your property.
3. Filtered humidifiers often seem to help those with more irritable sinuses and persistent odors.
4. Call us to inspect your home for hidden areas where smoke and odors could be persistent and stubborn to get resolved.

Remember, most of the time in situations like we have now, time and moisture is our friend and will fade the odors without the need of professional assistance or spending thousands of dollars trying to remedy the odor.
