A 10 year old Registered Charolais cow who had produced several thousands of dollars in progeny but had came lame and open. As you can see major neglect and lack of attention by a qualified hoof technician. It was obvious she had foot rot by the dark blemish on the hoof pad, distinct odor and as we trimmed we discovered that it had became an abscess pocket and was filled with puss and the infection had caused swelling through her cannon bone up to her hock. We drained the infection out. In a situation such as this it is a phase technique we use to get the natural shape of the hoof back while re constructing the hoof growth pattern. There are a couple of spots where I quick-ed the hoof wall and caused her to bleed some which is normal with this aggressive technique,but we got her trimmed, cleaned the infected area with iodine and administered a dose of broad range antibiotic to tackle the infection. We took some time off from our hoof-trimming business. Trimming at the Foster Brothers wonderful show cattle facility. But we're back again grinding to keep our client's cattle sound. And 41 head deep so far of mini bucking bull superstars. and 20 left. Getting em ready for the 4th of July weekend action!!
