UV light causes a loss in the tear and tensile strength of your turnout gear, shortening the usable lifespan and increasing your repair costs. Save money by reducing your exposure and extending its service life:

- Keep gear out of direct sunlight
- Don't stow gear hanging on the front of the apparatus with bay doors open while on shift
- Ensure there isn't direct sunlight hitting the gear rack at any point throughout the day - tint the window or add coverings if moving the gear rack location is not a viable option
- If not in service, store gear inside of a bag or container
Install motion detection lights in gear storage rooms to minimize exposure time from high-intensity fluorescent lighting

Hello! My name is Canyon Clark. I have been a volunteer firefighter at Wayne Fire Protection District #1 in Wayne City, IL for 12 years. I am married to an awesome wife, Amanda, and we have two children under 5. Outside of the fire service, I own and operate an outdoor media and property management company, with a focus on deer hunting content and habitat. I’m looking forward to helping the Fire Departments in far Southeast and Southern Illinois in any way I can. My #1 goal is to help keep all firefighters safe and comfortable while protecting their local communities!

Here are some highlights from DFC’s 2026 Golf Playday hosted at Shady Oaks Country Club in Sublette, IL! This year’s event was in honor of Doug Antoine and Paul Craig, two men who dedicated their lives to the fire service. DFC awarded scholarships for high school students continuing their education in Fire Science, EMS, Nursing, Medical, Criminal Justice, or related fields. We’ll see you next year!

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.
