“Man our ship and bring her to life!” With that time-honored order from the ship’s sponsors, Catherine Stevens and her daughters, Susan Stevens Covich and Lily Stevens Becker, the USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128) officially joined the fleet Saturday in Whittier.

Congratulations to the U.S. Navy, the USS Ted Stevens crew and the community of Whittier on an unforgettable day for Alaska. Chugach was honored to join the Stevens family, sailors and fellow Alaskans in Whittier to celebrate this historic milestone. President Katherine Carlton, Board Director Julie Kitka and Vice President of Marketing & Communications Randi Gause attended with members of the Chugach Government Solutions team, building on Chugach’s support of the USS Ted Stevens Commissioning Committee.

The occasion carries special meaning for Chugach shareholders. Senator Ted Stevens championed the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, which established Chugach and other Alaska Native corporations. Now, a ship bearing his name begins its service from a commissioning held in the Chugach region.

Quyana to the Navy and crew, the Stevens family, the USS Ted Stevens Commissioning Committee, the City of Whittier and everyone who helped make the day possible.

For the 28th consecutive year, Chugach Alaska Corporation is among the Top 10 on Alaska Business magazine's Top 49ers list of the state's largest Alaska-owned and operated businesses.

When Chugach first appeared on the list in 1987, we reported $21.4 million in revenue. In 2025, we reported $963.8 million. That growth supports distributions, employment and workforce development, educational opportunities, cultural and social programs, land stewardship and investment in the Chugach region.

"Growth matters most when it comes home to our people and our region," said Board Chair Sheri Buretta. "Nearly three decades in the Top 10 represents opportunity for our shareholders and descendants, and investment in the communities where they live."

Shareholders, employees and partners: this one's yours. The Alaska Chamber has named Chugach its 2026 Rita Sholton Business of the Year (100+ employees)!

"Everyone at Chugach had a hand in this," said Chairman Sheri Buretta. "Our shareholders, employees, Board of Directors, leadership team and partners built this company together. When Chugach does well, it shows up for our shareholders and descendants, in scholarships, jobs and support for our communities. I'm so proud of them."
