Exciting news for Seward and for Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard's decision to homeport a new cutter in Seward reflects the growing importance of Alaska's maritime and Arctic mission. It also highlights the strategic role communities like Seward play in supporting national security, emergency response, and maritime operations.

As an Alaska Native corporation whose people have deep roots throughout the Chugach region, we're proud to see continued investment in one of our region's communities.

We're also proud of Chugach Government Solutions' longstanding partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard and the important work they do to protect Alaska's waters and coastal communities.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making this happen.

The U.S. Coast Guard announced it will homeport its first two Arctic Security Cutters in Kodiak, with a third to come in Seward

Chugach leadership had the honor of meeting with Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum to discuss Chugach’s ongoing land exchange, a cooperative agreement that Chugach is working toward with the National Park Service (NPS), and the upcoming groundbreaking for Chugach’s Village In The City, a soon-to-be-built Alaska Native campus in Anchorage that will connect culture and community.

These important initiatives reflect Chugach’s continued commitment to responsible stewardship, cultural preservation, economic opportunity, and creating lasting resources for future generations. We are grateful for the meeting and the chance to share the vision behind these efforts, strengthen collaborative partnerships, and continue building momentum toward projects that will benefit the Chugach people, our region, our nation, and Alaska as a whole.

Last week, Commonwealth North's policy forum brought together leaders from across Alaska to discuss the economic impact of the 8(a) program and the enduring legacy of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA).

Chugach President Katherine Carlton joined fellow panelists Katie Berry of McKinley Research, ANCSA Regional Association President Nicole Borromeo, and one of the founders of ANCSA’s original framework Emil Notti to explore how the Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) model continues to drive economic opportunity, self-determination, and long-term benefits for Alaska Native shareholders and communities.

At Chugach, we believe the discussion around the 8(a) program is ultimately about creating opportunity and delivering results. The ANC model enables Native communities to build economic capacity, reinvest in future generations, and support mission-critical work for customers nationwide.

Thank you to Commonwealth North and all of the panelists for helping advance an important dialogue on the future of Native economic development.

This Day, all of us at Chugach Alaska Corporation remember and honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. At Chugach, our support for the military community is reflected in both the work we proudly perform and the many veterans and military families who are part of the Chugach family. We offer our deepest gratitude to those we remember and to the families who carry their legacy forward.

Please note that Chugach's corporate offices will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

We’re grateful to the Chugach Regional Resources Commission for sharing this incredible video and for helping preserve and celebrate the stories, knowledge, and way of life that continue to shape our communities today. Thank you, again, CRRC, for shining a light on the importance of subsistence and the enduring strength of our people and culture.

Stories of Subsistence 🎣🌿

For Chugach Tribal members, subsistence is more than food—it’s culture, identity, and survival passed down through generations.

But today, that way of life is changing.

Through powerful storytelling, Stories of Subsistence shares firsthand voices, lived experiences, and deep knowledge from Chugach communities—highlighting both the challenges and resilience of maintaining traditional practices in a changing world.
