🌱 A great opportunity for Anchorage’s young leaders!

The Municipality of Anchorage’s Youth Climate Action Fund is now accepting applications from youth ages 15–24 who have creative ideas for addressing climate challenges in our community.

A total of $40,000 is available, with individual microgrants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Projects may focus on:

⚡ Energy for buildings and transportation
♻️ Consumption and waste
🌿 Food systems
🌲 Urban forests and watersheds

No previous grant-writing experience is required. Youth applicants will need to partner with an eligible nonprofit sponsor—and local nonprofits are encouraged to get involved and help bring these youth-led ideas to life.

Throwback Thursday to circa 2013! 🧇🍗✨

We absolutely loved the Design vs. Food competitions put on by —and, let’s be honest, we loved winning too. This chicken and waffles creation, complete with maple bacon ice cream, earned us an award against some pretty tough competition!

More than anything, we remember the creativity, the laughter, and the chance to make great memories with our team and talented design friends from other firms. What a delicious throwback!

🎡 FAIR FAVORITES | ALASKA STATE FAIR 🎡

The Alaska State Fair is almost here, and for so many across Southcentral Alaska and beyond, it’s the perfect way to close out summer. Running August 21 through September 7, this year’s fair promises all the fun, flavor, and memory-making we look forward to every year!

Around SALT, everyone has a favorite—concerts, baked goods, exhibits, farm animals, giant vegetables, gorgeous flowers, carnival rides, fried foods, the rodeo, monster trucks, wild hair designs, face painting…and probably a treat or two we only allow ourselves during fair season. 😉🌭🍦

We love the Alaska State Fair and can’t wait for another year of making memories with our people. We hope to see you there!

HAPPY SALTIVERSARY | 23 Years of Natasha! ✨

Today we’re celebrating 23 years of Natasha Schmidt bringing creativity, leadership, heart, and just the right amount of SALT to our team!

Since joining the firm in 2003, Natasha has helped shape both the spaces we create and the way our studio operates. As our Director of Design + Operations and a co-owner since 2013, she has a gift for balancing big-picture design vision with the details, decisions, and organization needed to bring it all together. Over the years, she has contributed to more than four million square feet of work across Alaska and beyond—always focused on thoughtful collaboration and design that is both beautiful and practical.

Natasha is a problem-solver, planner, mentor, designer, plant enthusiast, sourdough baker, hockey mom, lake lover, and loyal adventurer with her favorite people. She brings her whole heart to her work, her family, our clients, and the SALTines—and somehow keeps all the plates spinning along the way.

We are incredibly grateful for her dedication, steady leadership, sharp eye, quick wit, and the care she brings to everything she does. SALT simply would not be the same without her.

Today we’re celebrating two years of Angie Burns bringing precision, heart, humor, and a whole lot of organization to SALT!

As our Controller + Benefits Coordinator, Angie keeps many of the important details moving behind the scenes—from accounting, payroll, and benefits to the systems and processes that help our team stay on track. With more than a decade of financial leadership experience and a hands-on, solutions-focused approach, she has a remarkable ability to make complicated things feel manageable—and to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Angie is a third-generation Alaskan, a thoughtful teammate, and someone we can always count on for clarity, consistency, and a perfectly timed dose of wit. She cares deeply, and SALT is stronger because of the steadiness, perspective, and heart she brings to our team every day.

BACK TO SCHOOL | A Little Stroll Down Memory Lane ✏️📚

Back-to-school season has us feeling nostalgic—and remembering the teachers who made a lasting difference in our lives.

Many of us have loved ones who dedicate their lives to helping students learn, grow, and feel supported. But one thing we all have in common is a favorite teacher—the one who encouraged us, challenged us, believed in us, or simply made school feel a little brighter.

It was so much fun taking a stroll down memory lane and sharing a few of our own favorites. Now we want to know: Who was your favorite teacher, and what made them so special?

Whether your little ones are heading off to kindergarten, starting at a new school, or leaving the nest for college, we know how meaningful—and emotional—this season can be. Community matters, and we’re sending a big SALT hug to students, families, teachers, administrators, and school staff as the new year begins. 💛

We’re just a couple of weeks away from a very special evening celebrating Ch’atanaltsegh’, the Indigenous place name for Fish Creek.

This meaningful project has been close to SALT’s heart from the very beginning. We’re honored to have been involved in the effort to recognize and celebrate this place name—helping uplift Indigenous language, history, and the enduring connection to this special place.
