Sierra Pacific Industries Fourth-Generation, Family-Owned Forest Products Company SPI owns and manages more than 2.4 million acres of forestland in California, Oregon and Washington.

Sierra Pacific Industries is a third-generation, family-owned forest products company committed to managing its lands in a responsible and sustainable manner to protect the environment while providing quality wood products and renewable power for consumers. Harvesting trees is much different than it was 50 or 100 years ago – today we employ modern forest management practices that closely mimic natural forest events. National Forest Products Week is a reminder of where we started, what built us, and where we're headed.

It's a chance to reflect on the people whose hard work and determination built this company from the ground up, and on the forests that made it possible.

From the seedlings planted today to the homes and businesses built years from now, every step is connected. The forests we manage provide a renewable resource that helps build lives, support communities, and create products people rely on every day.

Just as our forests have provided for us, we have a responsibility to give back to what built us. That's why we invest in reforestation and the long-term health of the land, working to ensure these forests remain productive for generations to come.

Forests are nature's water filtration system. Tree canopies slow rainfall, root systems stabilize soil, and forest floors filter out sediment and pollutants before water reaches nearby streams. At Sierra Pacific Industries, we manage our forests to protect these watersheds through state water quality regulations that provide streamside buffers. Forests supply about half the nation's water, and more than 150 million Americans rely on forested watersheds for their drinking water.

Collaboration is essential to the long-term health of California's forests and watersheds.

Recently, representatives from the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) joined forestry professionals, water providers, local agencies, and land managers for a field tour focused on forest stewardship, wildfire recovery, and watershed resilience in the Caldor Fire footprint.

Participants heard directly from experts involved in forest management and restoration efforts and saw firsthand the work being done to support recovery, reduce future wildfire risk, and protect the natural resources that communities depend upon. The tour created valuable opportunities to share perspectives, discuss challenges, and strengthen partnerships among the many organizations working toward healthy forests and reliable water supplies.

Thank you to all of the agencies, organizations, and individuals who contributed their expertise and helped make the day a success. Together, these partnerships are helping build more resilient forests, healthier watersheds, and stronger communities for the future. 🌲💧

Forestry has come a long way.

Decades ago, forestry operations relied on equipment and practices that offered fewer protections for workers and the environment. Today, advances in technology, equipment, and forest management have transformed the industry.

Modern forestry equipment is designed with operator safety in mind, while sustainable forestry practices help protect water quality, improve air quality, provide wildlife habitat, and maintain healthy forests for future generations. Careful planning, stream protection zones, harvesting methods, reforestation efforts, and ongoing environmental monitoring all work together to reduce impacts while supporting a renewable resource.
