The Federation for Children with Special Needs is piloting a new way to find support for young adult children who were:
• born between March 10, 1998, and September 1, 2001
• AND enrolled in special education until age 22 (aged out when they turned 22)
If your child meets these criteria, you may be eligible for a Direct Support Stipend. This is funding that you will be able to use for services that aren't covered by other sources of support. Eligible young adults and families can choose from many different options. A few examples:
• Executive functioning coach
• Speech therapy, occupational therapy, or physical therapy costs or co-pays
• A facilitator or organizer of a social group
• Costs of Mental health services not covered by insurance, such as co-pays or out-of-network support groups
• Gym, YMCA, or other memberships
• Art/music/dance/theater classes
• Theater or other performance tickets
• Extra respite services
• Transportation to work or other activities
• Purchasing assistive technology
These are just a few examples. You can choose the services that best meet your child's needs and interests.
