NC Watermelon Association

NC Watermelon Association The North Carolina Watermelon Association serves to protect and promote the interest of the NC Watermelon industry from production to consumption. C.

The North Carolina Watermelon Association was organized in 1975 as the "N. Watermelon Growers and Distributors Association". Reorganized in 1982 with the present name, NCWA is the North Carolina Chapter of the National Watermelon Association, which also includes organizations from Maryland-Delaware, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas-Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana, Illinois

, and California-Arizona. NCWA is made up of members from both inside and outside of North Carolina. An annual meeting of members is held yearly in March where, with a traditional pageant, a state queen is chosen to represent the association.

Today, the NC Farm Act of 2025-2026 was signed into law by Governor Stein.

This legislation strengthens agriculture, supports rural communities, and helps ensure that North Carolina remains a leader in food and fiber production for generations to come.

Agriculture feeds, fuels, and clothes our state. Today is a win for North Carolina agriculture.

I love a good school visit! Teaching
others about watermelons and enjoying some fresh watermelon are two of my favorite things to do, and I got to do both Wednesday morning at the Rockingham FFA Chapter's Ag Camp. Our third and final day in Washington, D.C.!
We had the best day stopping by the offices of several North Carolina House and Senate members! It was an amazing opportunity to advocate for our farmers by encouraging the passage of the Farm Bill and discussing improvements to agricultural labor laws. I am so grateful for the chance to share the importance of agriculture and represent North Carolina's watermelon industry on Capitol Hill!

Our first two days in Washington, D.C. for the International Fresh Produce Association Conference were an absolute blast! From opening receptions and keynote speeches by influential agricultural leaders who helped prepare us for our time in the House and Senate, to celebrating a special birthday and baby shower with our watermelon family, we made the most of every moment.

The knowledge we gained and the people we met undoubtedly shaped our conversations on Capitol Hill. We are so grateful for these opportunities and the chance to advocate for agriculture alongside such an amazing group.

Watermelon Wednesday takes on Capitol Hill!! It was such an amazing experience meeting Mr. George and spending the day lobbying on Capitol Hill with members of the House and Senate! It was inspiring to learn more about what our North Carolina leaders are doing to support and strengthen agriculture, our state's largest industry. The deadline to apply for the $221 million USDA block grant for certain ag losses from Hurricane Helene has been extended to June 12!

The block grant applies to producers and landowners in 39 presidential or secretarial declared counties for Hurricane Helene damage. The disaster assistance will only cover losses associated with Hurricane Helene that were not covered under any other USDA programs. Learn more from N.C.
