Finding a rhythm on the range can make performance look better in the moment. But training for long-term retention may require something different: contextual interference.

Our latest blog explores how introducing “desirable difficulties” can help move live-fire training beyond qualification and toward actual proficiency.

Is your training too easy?

On August 6, we celebrated the grand opening of MILO Live’s new manufacturing facility in Las Vegas. The new facility expands production capacity in the live-fire manufacturing market, enhances our ability to deliver innovative modular shooting ranges and range equipment, and provides employees with a modern, improved work environment—all while reinforcing our long-term commitment to Southern Nevada, where MILO Live has proudly operated for more than 30 years.

“We explored many options, but ultimately decided to double down on North Las Vegas, MILO Live’s home for more than 30 years.”

— Kurt Flosky, President, FAAC Incorporated

What happens before an officer makes the decision?

Situational awareness is often judged by the final response, but that response may only reveal a breakdown that began seconds earlier.

Did the officer notice the right information? Did they interpret it accurately? Did they anticipate what was likely to happen next?

Understanding the three levels of situational awareness can help instructors evaluate performance more precisely, structure stronger debriefs, and identify where a breakdown actually occurred.

New federal funding is available to support de-escalation and crisis response training for law enforcement.

The FY26 Safer Outcomes: Enhancing Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement program provides approximately $8 million to help law enforcement academies and state training commissions integrate de-escalation, communication, crisis response, and behavioral health concepts into officer training curriculum and statewide training standards.

MILO can support curriculum integration through repeatable, scenario-based training focused on communication, de-escalation, decision-making, and crisis response.

It's great to see agencies finding new ways to engage with their communities and introduce young people to law enforcement.

The Hudson Police Youth Academy is a great example of how simulation technology can support education, outreach, and hands-on learning beyond traditional law enforcement training.
