David Borneman, LLC

David Borneman, LLC I am an ecological restoration consultant and prescribed fire contractor.

I offer a full range of ecological restoration services across the Midwest, specializing in applying prescribed fire in rural and urban settings. Over the past 26 years, I have conducted hundreds of burns on thousands of acres of forests, savannas, prairies, and wetlands. My clients include private landowners, regional parks, state agencies, golf courses, hunting preserves, farmers, city and township parks, schools, metro airports, native landscapers, and corporations.

- Do you like to work outdoors in beautiful weather?
- Do you enjoy hard, physical labor?
- Are you sometimes available on short notice to work afternoons and evenings?
- Does working with FIRE sound like fun?

If the answer is yes, I may have a job for you! I run a small prescribed burn business - David Borneman, LLC - (RestoringNatureWithFire.com). We travel all around southern Michigan burning prairies, woodlands, and wetlands. I need 3-5 crew members who can carry drip torches full of fuel for lighting fires and backpacks full of water for putting them out. The work is strenuous and requires a high level of physical fitness; you must be able to carry 60-lb water packs on occasion. No previous burn experience required - I will teach you what you need to know. I just need people who are good at following directions, like to work hard, and don't mind getting dirty!

The work schedule is entirely weather-dependent, but will often be from late morning until after dark. Typically, we meet near Ann Arbor and all ride together in my truck to and from burn sites. I burn 7 days a week from March through May, but will welcome crew members who are only available certain days of the week, even if only 1-2 days. Interested parties should send a resume, and/or tell me something of your work history, and let me know which days of the week you would be available to work.

It's fun work! You are helping to restore nature, and you get to see some AMAZING flames!!

Starting pay for new crew members: $18.00/hour, including travel time.

Typically, we meet near Ann Arbor and all ride together in my truck to and from burn sites. With COVID, I’m requiring that all crew members in the truck be fully vaccinated and boosted. BUT, unvaccinated crew members may still join the crew if they’re willing to provide their own transportation to and from burn sites.

As with any weather dependent job, the schedule is unpredictable. We may not burn at all one week then burn five days in a row the next. But the experience is worth it. No experience necessary. Position available through mid-May. If interested email us at [Email hidden]

Where do you look for Morel mushrooms, you ask?! Let fire be your guide!

MDNR has posted a state-wide, interactive map: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153--354798--,00.html
