A Reflection for this How do your employees know they are valued?

Many organizations say, “Our employees are our greatest asset.”

But I’ve been thinking about this differently lately:

How do they know?

Not because it’s written in a strategic plan.
Not because it appears in an employee appreciation post.
Not because leadership says it once a year.

How do employees experience that value?

Perhaps they know when:

• Their contributions are seen and acknowledged. Not just what they produce, but the expertise, creativity, and care they bring to the work.

• Their voices carry weight. They have meaningful opportunities to contribute, offer perspective, and influence the work they are responsible for carrying out.

• Change is communicated with transparency and care. Organizational change is sometimes necessary. How people are included, informed, and treated throughout that change matters.

• Their well-being is considered alongside performance. We cannot call people our greatest asset while consistently overlooking the human cost of the work.

• What the organization says aligns with what employees experience. Culture is ultimately shaped by what people experience consistently—not simply by what we say we value.

So maybe the leadership question isn’t just:

“Do we value our employees?”

Maybe it is:

“Would our employees say they feel valued—and what evidence would they give?”

That is a different question.

And sometimes, it requires us as leaders and organizations to take an honest inventory of the gap between our stated values and lived culture.

At The Journey2Well, we help organizations have those conversations—examining workplace culture, strengthening trauma-responsive leadership, and creating environments that support the people who carry the mission forward.

If your organization is ready to take inventory, identify the gaps, and intentionally build a healthier culture of care, let’s connect.

Be well.

Sometimes, we don’t need to do more. We simply need to slow down.
Take a breath. Notice what you hear, what you see, and what you feel. Let yourself be present without rushing toward the next thing.
There is beauty in the quiet moments, too. 🌿

What’s one small thing you can slow down and appreciate today?
