Memorial Day weekend always reminds us that boating is more than just time on the water. It’s family traditions, friendships at the marina, afternoons anchored with good people, and a community built around the lifestyle we love.

This week also brought another incredible Annapolis tradition with the United States Naval Academy graduation and the unforgettable Blue Angels demonstrations over the harbor. A powerful reminder of the service and sacrifice behind the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As we spent time with family and friends this weekend, we also paused to honor the men and women who gave everything for our country.

What is better than Florida? The boating industry in Florida!

It was a fun, fast paced two days in Southwest Florida supporting the marine industry associations. We attended the annual dinner for MIACC and the breakfast in St Pete and Fort Myers for MIASWF introducing Compass Maritime Group not only as a new member but a resource for all other members.

Our team even ended the trip with 3 miles for the ! It was a walk filled with laughter while quoting our favorite boating movies, chasing lizards, and watching dolphins play. We even did a little brainstorming!

We are seeking an Experienced Marine Technician in Rock Hall, MD. This opportunity has tremendous growth potential within an intimate marina portfolio. We are looking for an all-around technician with 5+ years experience in marine systems.

In the Baltimore area, we are seeking a Service Advisor to join a busy Marine Industry Top 100 Dealership. The service advisor should have at least 2 years of experience in a service department, general marine knowledge and experience writing and scheduling service work.

Hiring feels different this time of year.

Service schedules fill.
Your team is stretched.
Hiring gets pushed in between everything else.

At the same time, candidate flow is often limited.

Which means every interview matters more. Every decision carries more weight.

The question shifts from:
“Where do we find people?”
to:
“How do we make the right decision with the candidates we have?”

This is the time of year when the boatyard is full and hiring starts to compete with everything else.

Not because it is less important.
Because everything else speeds up.
Service schedules fill.
Boats start showing up.
Customers need attention.

Hiring gets pushed in between everything else.
And at a certain point, it is not about whether you can hire.
It is about whether you have the time and structure to do it well.
That is usually the moment when businesses start to rethink how hiring gets handled.

Some continue to manage it internally.
Others put more structure around it so it keeps moving, even when they are busy. There is no one right answer.

But there is a point where trying to do everything at once starts to cost more than it saves.
If hiring is already feeling like “one more thing” this season, it might be worth stepping back and looking at how the process is structured.
