Looking like we are hitting 100 degrees today, earliest on record for Phoenix

I know my ACs will be kicking on and I am sure yours will be as well

In my 10 years in AZ I don’t remember ever turning those on in March

With that rate increase from APS, you will more than likely be seeing the highest bill you have ever had for this time of the year

I won’t be though, since I took action 5 years ago for the problem I had with APS.

My solar panels will be cranking power during the hottest time of the day

I am not worried about my bill

We also keep the ACs at whatever temperature we want

Comfort, Control, and Savings

That is what solar will bring you, especially when it is coupled with energy efficiency solutions and designed correctly

I have found many homeowners, who have installed solar over the last 10 years, truly do not know what they have.

What I mean is that there is more detailed information that should be provided at the time of sale about the future, but unfortunately just the basic details are given

HIGHEST APS BILL EVER?

Yesterday Phoenix hit the 80th day in a row with a high temp of 100+ degrees

We already broke the record from 1993 3 days ago and we have no end in sight for cooler temps, even at night (90+ record about to be broken)

Demand levels are up and ACs are running harder and longer

Take a look at page 4 of your most current bill and you will notice that your usage is up 25-40% compared to the same time last year

The high heat is one reason causing this

The other is the massive rate increase APS had this year

No one seemed to pay attention that this rate increase was 5 times the last one in 2019

No one paid attention to the new fee stemming from the last rate increase that started last October or the fact that natural gas prices have increased fees as well

APS is very quickly headed towards CA utility rates which are easily 50% higher

These rate increases will continue to happen

Record high heat and year over year increased demand will be the driving factors

You think these bills are bad? Just wait for those future bills that you may not afford to pay and the unfortunate thing is that you

DONT HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO PAY THEM

Seems like a problem that most don’t want to address

Why continue to pay a publicly traded corporation 10s of thousands of dollars when you have a long term solution that basically uses the same money you would have spent anyway

“It’s too expensive, it’s a scam, the ROI is not there…”

AEROSEAL/REDUCING DEMAND

If you have read the information on insulation and attic fans, then you know that your AC is the #1 draw of power in your home

It also pulls the most demand in your home as well

Demand is how much power is being used at a given moment, always measured during the on peak times (for your bill)

Utilities focus on demand and because of the massively increasing demand on our grid, rate increases have been very large and will continue to happen

This is a problem, but there are solutions

Upgrading insulation does help with demand, but Aeroseal has the biggest impact

Aeroseal was developed at the Berkeley Labs in 1997 and is the #1 rated energy technology by the Department of Energy

The process is fairly simple:

▪️manually seal the air handler(s)
▪️make sure all air duct connections are good
▪️seal the boots of every vent in your home
▪️non toxic latex glue turned into a v***r
▪️shot through duct work and seals up to 5/8” hole

This will create better air flow, air quality, reduce demand, and make your AC more efficient

Ideal for 2 story homes where duct work may not be accessible

Aeroseal also qualifies for any utility rebates along with the energy efficiency tax credits

It also works extremely well when coupled with solar

Reduce before you produce

Just makes sense

VENTILATION OF THE ATTIC

Two days ago I posted about how important it is to have energy efficient levels of insulation

The whole point of that is to trap the heat in your attic to prevent from it transferring to your living space

Most homes in AZ have inadequate ventilation of the attic

Yes, there are vents and whirlybirds (metal spinning), but there is nothing pushing the air of the attic

This hot air has an adverse affect on the efficiency of the AC and the roofing materials

This must be addressed

After we complete new insulation in the attic we will install a solar attic fan

These fans have a DC motor, meaning they are a standalone unit, with no electricity needed

They cover upwards of 2400 sq ft of attic space and provide the proper ventilation needed

Full 25 year replacement warranty as well, along with a thermal switch that shuts off the unit at 55 degrees

Think of it like a ceiling fan that pulls the heat up during the summer time. Running counter clockwise, the attic fan will move the hot air and then vent it out

It just makes sense
