Day late, but still worth saying — Happy National Farmers Day!

Both of my parents are farm kids, and as much as I’ve tried, that work ethic just won’t leave me. (Though Amber gets on me because all I ever want to eat is meat and potatoes and nothing adventurous 😂).

Huge thank you to all the farmers out there — most of us truly have no idea how much hard work goes into every single day you put in.

I have been fielding a lot of questions about the shutdown. Here is a great article about the impact on the government shutdown for those receiving social security benefits.

Short answer...they will be paid.

Social Security benefit payments will still go out on time, according to the agency. But certain services may not be available.

Work can be a grind sometimes, so I try to sneak in little things that make the day more fun.

Yesterday it was Ninja Turtle socks 🐢 (Michelangelo is obviously the best one).

Is it silly? Yep.

Does it make me smile? Definitely.

Are we on the right track?

I get this question a lot.

This summer, I spent a lot of time at the ballpark (okay, probably too much) coaching and watching my three boys play.

There were plenty of highlights:

A first tee ball game (if you ask him, the snack was the highlight)

Pitching 5 innings for the first time

Batting .500 in a tournament

And then there were the not-so-fun parts: giving up a home run, making an error in a big moment, and plenty more.

That’s baseball — ups and downs, but you show up the next day ready to play again. I am constantly asking my boys some version of, "are we getting better?"

Being a financial advisor isn’t much different.

Wins worth celebrating.

Setbacks that test patience.

And always another “game” tomorrow to keep moving forward.

My role? To be a coach through it all — the good and the not-so-good — and to keep the big picture of progress in focus.

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day? What you don't know what that is?

Since July 1, 2011, the New York Mets have paid Bobby Bonilla $1.19 million every year — and they’ll keep doing that until 2035.
All for a player they cut back in 2000.

But this post isn’t about baseball. It’s about what we can learn from this:

Bonilla turned a $5.9M buyout into nearly $30M by deferring the money and letting interest work for him. Time and growth matter.
