Good morning!
This is a reminder that with the holidays coming up its best not to self clean your oven!
This is due to the high temps your oven will reach causing extra stress on components including control boards elements and safety thermostats.
Unfortunately this time of year we get very busy with emergency calls that the oven has now failed after or during self clean and now with guests coming the oven won't work.
Although we do everything possible to help in this situation many times the manufacturers have not provided enough inventory and the closer to the holiday the more likely your particular component needed will be either extremely expensive or on factory back order or with the shortage of technicians it may not be repaired in time.
Either way it's just best to wait until after the holidays or any large get together before you try self cleaning your oven.
More to come including the best way to clean your self cleaning oven soon.

The Methyl Chloride Nightmare

The True Story of the 1920s Appliance Repair Crisis Nobody Talks About

Most people today think appliance repair is pretty harmless.

You change a compressor, swap a board, fix a leak, maybe get a little frostburn. No big deal.

But back in the 1920s and early 1930s, the job was one of the deadliest trades in the country.

And almost nobody knows why.

Before Freon existed, refrigerators were filled with methyl chloride.

A sweet smelling, invisible gas that could knock you unconscious in seconds and stop your breathing in minutes.

The crazy part is the people who died weren’t the homeowners.

It was the repair techs.

Refrigerators back then leaked constantly.

Cheap welds. Thin tubing. Cracked valves.

So every time a leak happened, a tech would get called out to “top off the coolant” or patch a tiny line.

But when methyl chloride leaked, it filled the inside of the fridge first.

Repairmen would open the door
Lean in
Take one breath
And never get back up.

Some collapsed immediately.

Some crawled outside and died on the porch.

Some were found on kitchen floors next to their tool bags.

Newspapers called it “the silent kitchen killer.”

Repair unions protested.
Cities debated banning refrigerators.
Companies were sued into the ground.

It got so bad that in 1930, Frigidaire and General Motors rushed to invent the first non toxic refrigerant.

The result was Freon. And the entire appliance repair industry survived because of it.

For almost a decade, appliance repair techs walked into kitchens every day knowing one loose fitting could drop them dead.

It is one of the wildest true trade stories buried in American history.
