We're inspired by the farming communities of Wanwoma and Lower Rankollie in Lofa County, Liberia, who recently ended a decade-long boundary dispute. This bitter dispute had divided even families and neighbors. With support from the USAID Liberia Land Management Activity, implemented by ECODIT, they used Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques to harmonize boundaries and restore peace. As one elder shared, "Letting conflict divide us only confuses our children. Let’s remember that we are one family."

This success is part of ECODIT’s mission to foster peace and prosperity by empowering communities to resolve land disputes, secure property rights, and sustainably manage their land so they can live and farm securely. So far, the Land Management Activity has achieved:

✅ 34 land disputes resolved through ADR,
✅ 228,076 acres secured with customary land deeds, and
✅ Training for communities, women, and marginalized groups to sustainably manage land.

Together with these resilient communities, we’re demonstrating how collaboration and trust can foster sustainable development and build a brighter, more equitable future.

Communities are coming together to create meaningful change! The USAID Lebanon Diverting Waste by Encouraging Reuse and Recycling - DAWERR Activity, led by ECODIT, has introduced an innovative waste management solution to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and their host communities around Beirut.

By partnering with 11 community kitchens serving IDPs, DAWERR has already collected over 3,000 kg of organic waste for treatment—helping reduce landfill use while bolstering the essential work of these kitchens.

And this is just the beginning. With plans to expand to restaurants and markets, DAWERR is charting a path toward a more sustainable and resilient future for all. 🌍

We’re thrilled to share that our work through the USAID Zimbabwe Resilience ANCHORS Activity has been featured in the Associated Press! 📰✨

In Nyangambe, Zimbabwe, farmers are using maggot farming—an innovative, sustainable practice we’ve championed—to transform organic waste into high-protein livestock feed. 🐛🌱 This approach is helping communities reduce feed costs, improve food security, and build resilience to drought and climate shocks, all while supporting environmental conservation. 🌍

Check out the article below!

It was an alarming, even sickening, suggestion: Farmers in Zimbabwe hit hard by drought should farm maggots to feed their animals and boost their household incomes.

Last Friday, ECODIT President Roula Attar moderated a panel discussion and Q&A session for a virtual Reverse Industry Day (RID) with USAID staff, hosted by USAID - US Agency for International Development’s Office of Acquisition and Assistance (M/OAA) and Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU), in collaboration with the Small Business Association for International Companies (SBAIC). Ms. Attar worked closely with USAID to organize the RID, in her capacity as co-chair of SBAIC’s Procurement Committee.

“It was a privilege to convene small business leaders and USAID staff to discuss ways for the Agency to better leverage small business capabilities to enhance development impact across sectors and regions,” said Ms. Attar. “Industry engagement events like these contribute to strengthening partnerships and I am grateful to USAID and SBAIC for their shared commitment to effective small business utilization.”
