We're inspired by the farming communities of Wanwoma and Lower Rankollie in Lofa County, Liberia, who recently ended a decade-long boundary dispute. This bitter dispute had divided even families and neighbors. With support from the USAID Liberia Land Management Activity, implemented by ECODIT, they used Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques to harmonize boundaries and restore peace. As one elder shared, "Letting conflict divide us only confuses our children. Let’s remember that we are one family."
This success is part of ECODIT’s mission to foster peace and prosperity by empowering communities to resolve land disputes, secure property rights, and sustainably manage their land so they can live and farm securely. So far, the Land Management Activity has achieved:
✅ 34 land disputes resolved through ADR,
✅ 228,076 acres secured with customary land deeds, and
✅ Training for communities, women, and marginalized groups to sustainably manage land.
Together with these resilient communities, we’re demonstrating how collaboration and trust can foster sustainable development and build a brighter, more equitable future.
