What happens when music creates a bridge to memory, connection, and joy?

This week's Dementia Arts Spotlight features Melanie Bates, a violinist bringing live music to senior living and memory care communities throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Through familiar Motown, classic rock, holiday songs, and more, Melanie creates opportunities for older adults to sing, dance, participate, and reconnect with memories. She has even witnessed residents move from anger to joy after being invited to join in with the music.

Melanie's work is a beautiful reminder that music can create connection and meaningful moments at every stage of the dementia journey
