Counseling for the Curious
We all have a deep desire to for the world to be better. What sets you apart is that you know the change begins with you. Sometimes the critical chorus of voices in your head trips you up. You begin to believe that you’ll never be good enough to get what what you long for. And it often feels like your anxiety will be a constant companion. It’s always harping on how things will never get better, no matter what you do. When this happens you can start to feel even more helpless.
This doesn’t mean you can’t have a life that both excites you and where you are your true self. It simply means that you need to risk asking for help. When you do, you can find newer, deeper ways to understand what’s barring you from that life.
Often, when you’ve been depressed, anxious, and scared to connect for so long you can feel totally paralyzed to do anything to change it. So instead you decide to just fake it. Soon you’re left wondering if you will ever truly be okay, never mind happy.
Figuring this s**t out is really hard. And it’s completely normal to want to hide your head in the sand, and pretend everything is okay. Even though you feel ashamed now, it doesn’t have to keep you from learning to treat yourself with compassion, viewing your life through the lens of curiosity instead of criticism, and connecting with others who will cherish rather than condemn you.
