tl;dr - The 2025 "Silver Standard" List: Popular, Solid, but Just Short of Greatness (Ratings 7.0 - 8.0 | 100,000+ Users)
A'ight folks, we’ve covered the trash and the disappointing fumbles, but now it’s time to talk about the "Solid Workhorses" of 2025. 🥈
You know that local food joint that ain’t the fanciest, but when your stomach sounding like godzilla it gets the job done? It’s reliable, it’s consistent, and even though you know it ain't really the best, you still got it on speed dial when you need that fix. That’s what we’re calling the Silver Standard.
These are the shows that had the whole anime community tuning in—over 100,000 users deep—but couldn't quite clear that 8.0 hurdle to reach "Great" status. They weren't the greatest of all time, but they were definitely the best of the "mid".
We checked the MAL stats, and these shows carried the middle of the pack this year:
- Sakamoto Days Part 2 (7.92 | 219,313 users)
- The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You S2 (7.91 | 161,321 users)
- Clevatess (7.83 | 161,182 users)
- To Your Eternity Season 3 (7.81 | 130,708 users)
- Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 (7.80 | 323,382 users)
- Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill S2 (7.74 | 100,602 users)
- Fire Force Season 3 (7.70 | 282,937 users)
- Wind Breaker Season 2 (7.63 | 207,910 users)
- I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince... S2 (7.63 | 122,774 users)
- Sakamoto Days (7.59 | 462,093 users)
- My Hero Academia: Vigilantes (7.59 | 154,250 users)
- Zenshu (7.58 | 158,449 users)
- I Have a Crush at Work (7.51 | 125,434 users)
- May I Ask for One Final Thing? (7.46 | 127,835 users)
- My Happy Marriage Season 2 (7.41 | 142,662 users)
- Witch Watch (7.38 | 187,869 users)

- Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho (7.30 | 113,353 users)
- Lazarus (7.19 | 233,943 users)
- Honey Lemon Soda (7.17 | 121,647 users)
- The Water Magician (7.07 | 169,011 users)
- The Shiunji Family Children (7.07 | 108,533 users)
🥈 The Hype Machine: Sakamoto Days Part 1 (7.59) & Part 2 (7.92)
We have to talk about the man, the myth, the legend... the convenience store owner. Sakamoto Days had the biggest crowd of the year with over 462,000 users on the first part! It’s like that blockbuster movie that everyone goes to see on opening weekend. 🎬 The action was crisp, and the vibes were high, but even with all those eyes on it, it couldn't quite break into the elite 8.0 club. It’s the definition of a "High-Quality Binge"— you gonna be hooked on watching it but maybe missing that little extra oomph to make it a masterpiece.
🔥 The Return of the King: Fire Force Season 3 (7.70)
Shinra and the squad finally came back, and 282,000 of us were right there waiting with the matches. Season 3 was solid, and the animation still had those beautiful sparks, but it seems like the long break cooled the hype down just a little bit. It’s like your favorite veteran player coming back for one last season—they’re still good, they still make the plays, but they aren't quite the MVP they used to be. Still, a 7.70 is a respectable "Silver" finish!
🎭 The Experimental Pick: Lazarus (7.19)
With Shinichiro Watanabe (the legend behind Cowboy Bebop) at the helm, we all expected Lazarus to be the second coming. Over 233,000 people tuned in, but a 7.19 tells us the community was a little split. It’s like that high-concept experimental restaurant—some people love the unique flavors, but others are just wondering where the fries are. It’s cool, it’s stylish, but it didn't quite capture the "Gold" for everyone.
A’ight UAL squad, let’s get into it! Which one of these "Silver Standard" shows did you think deserved to be in the Gold category? Is Kaiju No. 8 S2 (7.80) being slept on, or did the math get it right? Drop your takes in the comments! 👇🏾
