Emergency preparedness is part of the everyday work of running a safe terminal. September’s National Preparedness Month is a chance to give that work some extra attention.

The time teams spend preparing together helps build a shared understanding of what to do and how to communicate during an incident. It also creates space to ask questions before an emergency demands answers.

This September, ILTA encourages members to keep those conversations going and make time to revisit how their teams would and should respond in an emergency.

The Environment Committee has plenty to talk through in Chicago, including best practices for transitioning away from PFAS-based firefighting foams and a deep dive into the Gasoline Distribution and NSPS Subpart Kc rules. The roundtable gives members room to raise their own questions and hear how other companies are approaching environmental challenges.

And the invitation extends beyond those working in environmental compliance. All employees of ILTA terminal member companies are welcome. With Environment, Health & Safety, Security, and Government Affairs on the agenda, there’s plenty to learn outside your usual focus.

The Health & Safety Committee program at the ILTA Fall Joint Committee Meeting will explore:
● How Serious Injury or Fatality (SIF) tracking can strengthen prevention efforts beyond traditional OSHA metrics
● What proposed PHMSA changes to API 653 breakout tank inspections could mean for terminal operations
● Practical approaches to safety culture, confined space entry, electronic permits, inspections, jobsite safety, and more
