Liquid terminals rely on digital systems to schedule shipments, track inventory, manage product movements, and coordinate with customers and carriers. A cyber incident can disrupt that work and affect others across the supply chain.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is an opportunity to highlight what’s at stake for our industry. Through its Security Committee, ILTA brings terminal members together to discuss concerns, share best practices, and learn how their peers are addressing cybersecurity risks.

In conversations with our Education & Programming Council, we've identified a few topics we’d like to explore more deeply:

🔹How AI is changing work and workforce needs
🔹Lessons in leadership
🔹PPE and disaster preparedness
🔹Practical approaches to infrastructure and asset integrity

If you’ve tested a new approach or learned a lesson fellow terminal professionals could use, bring that experience to ILTA 2027. It’s a chance to teach your peers and share your expertise with the industry.

Jamel has spent more than 18 years with Shell, beginning his career as a Reliability Engineer and advancing into senior operational leadership. Emergency preparedness is part of the everyday work of running a safe terminal. September’s National Preparedness Month is a chance to give that work some extra attention.

The time teams spend preparing together helps build a shared understanding of what to do and how to communicate during an incident. It also creates space to ask questions before an emergency demands answers.

This September, ILTA encourages members to keep those conversations going and make time to revisit how their teams would and should respond in an emergency.
