As the LA fires continue, we have received a lot of questions about how PHOS-CHEK Works.
When a wildfire approaches vegetation and other surfaces treated with PHOS-CHEK, a graphite-like carbon is formed, resulting in a non-flammable carbon coating. This starves the fire of any additional fuels and makes control easier. The water in the fire retardant slurry boils off, absorbing heat and providing a cooling effect on the fire. Any fire retardant residue that is not consumed in the fire will continue to be effective in preventing ignition and flame spread until removed from the fuel by significant rainfall. Any retardant not consumed by the fire will later fertilize the ground when diluted by rain.
