A big THANK YOU to the Sandhills Open Road Challenge board and our entire community for once again rolling out the welcome mat and making SORC participants and visitors feel right at home.
Whether you served on the board, volunteered your time, supported the event as a local business or sponsor, opened your home to guests, or simply took the time to welcome and visit with someone who came to town—you played a part in making the weekend special.
We pulled a few comments from participant bios in this year’s driver book that show just how much Arnold’s hospitality is noticed and appreciated. It’s a great reminder that all those big and little things our community does really do make a difference!

💚 These small American towns in central Nebraska are the heart of this family gathering each year. The hospitality is immeasurable and the organization is outstanding.
💚 We are really looking forward to August and our little slice of heaven in Arnold, Nebraska. What a wonderful town with great “can-do” people. Thanks to all of you for allowing us to do what only a few lucky people get to experience.
💚 Got to give a big “THANK YOU” to the Arnold community for all the support, you all are a prime example of what the term “Midwest Hospitality” means!
💚 We look forward to coming back to Arnold. To us, it is the most down-to-earth place in the world! We are ALWAYS treated like family.
💚 This is our third year of participating in SORC. It now feels like a homecoming of friends, family, and neighbors. It takes a couple of years to really understand and appreciate how the awesome volunteers and welcoming towns make SORC an event like no other. We continue to be impressed with the overall organization and planning of the SORC board. Our summer highlight is our week in the Sandhills of Nebraska and trying to drive that “perfect time.”
💚 It’s the people that run this event that make it very special. If only we could do this every weekend!
💚 I have made lifelong friendships as a result of this race. It is why I keep coming back each and every year. It’s like a family reunion for all of us speed junkies. Thank you to all the volunteers who have put in such hard work for the past 26 years to make this annual reunion something special for all of us racers who come visit each year.
💚 We are officially addicted to this event and look forward to competing for many years to come.
💚 Thank you to all of the volunteers that make this event happen. It really is a testament to Nebraskans and the racing community that an event like this can be put on with almost all volunteer help.
💚 It’s a real hoot for so many of us people from all over North America. I’ll keep coming until I’m no longer able to.

💚 I can’t wait for August. It is a great feeling to crest that hill heading west on Highway 92 with Arnold in sight.
💚 The road is a blast to drive, but honestly, we come because of the people here. We are family now.
💚 This is the best event in the country in the nicest part of the country. When you come to SORC and Arnold, you feel like a celebrity. The parade is one of my favorite parts of the week. The race is the highlight of our year.
💚 The races are fun and intense, like nothing else that we do. The community is great and a big thanks to all the people and especially the volunteers that make this possible year after year!
💚 This is our 4th time here at SORC and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again in Nebraska—this is our favorite event and we look forward to it every year!

When people ask us about SORC, we spend a few minutes talking about the race and many more minutes talking about all the other activities and the great people that make this event memorable. Every year we get to know more and more people who race, volunteer, or support the event. We have had many meaningful conversations and made new friends here in Arnold. We look forward to the people as much as the competition. We want to thank everyone who makes SORC possible. The spirit of this event is what makes this a must on our to-do list every year.

💚 When I roll into Arnold and see that water tower on the hill, I just start to smile as I know it’s going to be a great week catching up with all the locals, volunteers, board members, and, of course, the racers. Thank you to all the volunteers and board members, along with the community of Arnold and surrounding communities, who put on such an amazing event.
💚 This will be my second SORC event. My family and I were blown away by the organization, enthusiasm, and hospitality last year, and we look forward to more of the same this year!
💚 This is my 16th year participating in the SORC. I truly cannot say enough that will express my feelings for the people that are at this event, be they racers, course workers, or spectators. It is something very special that everyone has made uniquely Nebraska. Even those that come from far away leave with a bit of “The Good Life” in their soul.
💚 Thank you to the people of Arnold and the surrounding communities who make this possible. I’m impressed with the organization, commitment, and kindness I’ve witnessed each year that we have participated.
