Personal Growth for me - really understanding my bias. Digging deep and asking to better understand the lives of my black friends and colleagues. I need to just do better to appreciate everyone, their backgrounds, their history, their fears and dreams. All lives matter!

Are you experiencing Virtual Meeting Fatigue? You're not alone. Here are some key steps that will help you and your team.

1. Use the Speaker view so that when a person is talking/presenting it feels more like an actual meeting.

2. Prepare the materials you want to share ahead of time and keep the font large. With people on the side bars, not all of the screen real estate can be used and you want the attendees to see your material.

3. Avoid multi-tasking. I know its hard, so take notes to keep your focus.

4. Turn your camera off - if you in listening mode, then its ok to turn it off but remember, don't multi-task.

5. Take breaks - get out of your work area and get outside. Stretch and come back refreshed.

6. Make your meeting a call instead. Just like all of your meetings make sure there is an agenda and keep to the time frame.

7. Make a theme out of a meeting just to change up the view. Hawaiian shirt day, ball cap day... you get the idea. And have some fun.

Video conferencing as a norm is new to everyone so everyone is working to get good at it. Video is still the next best thing to being there in person, so make it work for you. #

Personal Accountability is a leadership trait that most people say they have but may not always display. The ability to listen to, absorb, and take action on Feedback is the toughest element of personal accountability. Focus on the pieces of feedback that are actionable and will make you a better leader. For example, learning to sharpen your conflict management capability or strengthening your collaboration skills will go along way to proving your leadership ability. And it shows that you are taking personal accountability seriously.

This week is the 3 month mark from the lockdown due to COVID -19. With the amount of employees continuing to work remotely, it's time to check in on their environment. If for example, your team will work remotely for several more months, their home office may need an overhaul. The feasibility of working from the kitchen table or bedroom bed, is not really sustainable. Talk to you team about how to make a better home office using a table/chair with a screen to help eliminate distractions. Find a better chair for help with posture. Consider dressing up especially if your team zooms with customers. And discuss how to work on finding balance. Remote workers have a tendency to work more hours because the laptop is right there and its easy to check one more email. It's time to help your team work through the next few months and be even more comfortable and productive.
