A Chinese blue and white “scrolling flower” and “ice-crack pattern” cylindrical jar
Qianlong period, Qing dynasty
Elegant in form and richly detailed in decoration, this Qing dynasty blue and white cylindrical jar reflects the refined balance of imperial porcelain design.
The body is painted in underglaze blue with scrolling floral motifs, geometric panels, and ice-crack patterns, creating a layered visual rhythm across the surface. Its domed cover, finished with a matching floral and geometric design, is surmounted by a finely carved jewel-form knop.
The zhuang jar form traces its origins to early imperial porcelain traditions, inspired in part by West Asian metalwork forms and later transformed through Chinese ceramic aesthetics. This example presents a dignified silhouette, luminous glaze, and intricate patterning characteristic of fine Qing blue and white porcelain.
From a private collection, Saratoga, California.
