Celebrating National Women and Girls in Sports Day!

At Blue Ridge Impact Foundation, we recognize the powerful intersection of literacy and sports in shaping the future of young girls. Both are transformative tools that build confidence, resilience, and opportunity, helping girls thrive academically and athletically. When combined, they foster well-rounded leaders ready to take on the world!

🏆📚 Why NWGSD Matters:
Established in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan, National Women and Girls in Sports Day (NWGSD) is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of February to honor female athletes and advocate for equal opportunities in sports. Athletics instill teamwork, discipline, and self-worth, empowering girls far beyond the game.

💡 As Billie Jean King once said: “The empowerment of girls and women through sport is one of the most powerful tools we have to promote gender equality and build stronger communities.”

Join us in championing education, athletics, and equal opportunities for all girls!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke to the importance of organizing strength in his sermon “Where Do We Go From Here?” on August 16, 1967, during the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s (SCLC) annual convention in Atlanta, Georgia and said, “power properly understood is nothing but the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political, and economic change… What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.”

And in these words he emphasized the balance between strength and compassion in organizing for effective and just action…
