We are based in Asheville, North Carolina and our 26,000 sq. facility includes a multimedia auction gallery, three exhibition galleries and photography studios. Our staff of 30 includes specialists in many fields of the fine and decorative arts as well as collectibles, ephemera and jewelry. We sell single items, private collections, and property deaccessioned by museums and other non-profit institutions.

A landmark line in the American landscape.

Before the Declaration of Independence and before the US Constitution, there was the Mason-Dixon map. The property line, which took British surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon nearly 5 years to plot before the American Revolution, would divide the country during the Civil War. Since then, this foundational document has become a shorthand for our national and cultural identity.

Brunk Auctions is deeply honored to bring this historic, one of a kind manuscript map to auction on October 29.

Monumental in scale, fearless in ex*****on and unforgettable in its contrasts, this important scroll by Huang Yongyu, which Brunk Auctions will be selling in our October 20 Asian auction, brings extraordinary energy to the centuries-old tradition of Chinese painting.

Born in China's Hunan Province in 1925, Huang did not follow the conventional path of formal art-school training; instead, he educated himself in art and literature and began painting as a teenager.

He worked in ink and color on paper, using energetic brushwork, simplified forms, and vivid colors, which are visible here in "Red Lotus", which he painted in 1981.

No stranger to institutional collections, Huang's works are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art in Hong Kong. "Red Lotus" was exhibited at the Birmingham Museum of Art in Alabama, in 1987.

October 29 is a day for American history, and it begins with a line that became a shorthand for the nation's North-South divide.

At 10:00 AM, we're honored to offer the original manuscript map of the Mason-Dixon Line, drawn by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon between 1767 and 1768. First owned by Benjamin Chew, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, and later by Malcolm Forbes, it's joined by a small group of maps and manuscripts central to the survey itself, including the Calvert–Franklin Articles of Agreement.

At 10:15 AM, the Estate of Richard and Shirley Roberts follows with a lifetime of connoisseurship: Goddard and Townsend furniture from Newport, Impressionist paintings by Childe Hassam and Jane Peterson, Georgian and American silver, and rare maps of early Virginia, all sourced from the leading dealers in the field.
