Despite a shortage of cloud talent, top companies are finding ways to get past table stakes and build the capabilities needed.

Giving a shout-out to my very good friends, Mike and his wife Tanya. I was having a rough day today and then these two angels appeared this afternoon. Mike Greenberg is the President and CEO of Environmental Service Partners (http://www.esp-green.com). They made a very, very generous donation to Sy's Fund, a non-profit that I also support, that helps young adults with cancer. Mike and Tanya definitely embody Ralph Waldo Emerson's quote “…To Know That Even One Life Has Breathed Easier Because You Lived. This Is To Have Succeeded.” Their donation will definitely ease the lives of many who have applied for grants. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mike and Tanya.

American service members killed in Afghanistan through April 2021: 2,448. U.S. contractors: 3,846. Afghan national military and police: 66,000. Other allied service members, including from other NATO member states: 1,144. Afghan civilians: 47,245. While I deeply mourn all the lives lost in Afghanistan over the last 20 years, I'm also left scratching my head as to how the taliban have been able to so quickly retake the country. As we were fighting the war, weren't we also preparing the Afghan military and police forces to take over and protect their own country? Apparently not. What happened to "start with the end in mind?"

Military officers like me thought we were building a capable Afghan security force. What did we get wrong? Plenty.
