Please come out and remember the ones who sacrificed all to help others. This is the 25th anniversary of the tragic event.

Thank you to every volunteer out there, and the communities that support them!

Thank you to every volunteer out there, and the communities that support them!

Today is Volunteer Firefighter Recognition Day. In 1984 President Reagan proclaimed August 18th to be the official day to honor the men and women who give up free time, leave work early, and spend hours training for the good of their community.

These are just a few of the fire departments in our area that staffed by volunteers. In fact, most of north-central Idaho and southeastern Washington is protected by volunteers.

Fire families have got to be the worst at picking locations to have a get together. But while the location has a bit to be desired, it was good to work with our brothers and sisters from the region that we don't see often. Even some long lost relatives flew in from out of town. Everybody please stay safe out there.

We have spent the last couple of days helping all of our regional partners dealing with a fire in some pretty rugged terrain! We had some new guys that got to experience some techniques that we don't always get to use to stop a rapidly progressing fire. Burn outs, multiple truck pump and roll, and some drafting to make a few. We had the apparatus on the fire all night and some more of the crew went out again this morning to monitor it during a red flag day. A long night working with great friends. Glad everyone stayed safe during the Grasshopper attacks!

While most people were playing yard games, having bbq, our getting ready for firework shows, our crew was getting ready in another way. The 4th always bring unique challenges and yesterday was no different. The afternoon started with a red flag day, which means low humidity, high heat and wind. While at the station preparing for the evening, we had a garage fire in town (which had nothing to do with fireworks). Our valley partners were quick to assist, and we achieved a quick knock down. Later in the evening we treated several injuries due to mishandling or firework failures, and ensured small fires got put out quickly. As things calmed down our crew was able to enjoy some local displays. It's still dry and still hot today, please continue to be safe as the weekend continues!

Some more pictures from the structure fire today. Even Avista needs kudos for this one.
