In commercial pool operations, most major issues do not come from complex failures but from small, missed details that get overlooked over time.
A loose gate latch.
A worn life ring.
An outdated Material Safety Data Sheet file.
A drain cover that hasn’t been inspected closely enough.
These may seem minor, but they can quickly become serious safety risks, compliance issues, and liability concerns.
After 41 years in swimming pool distribution and 30 years as an NSPF/PHTA Certified Pool Operator instructor, I’ve seen that the basics are the most important part of a smooth operation. I have certified more than 900 operators and trained state and local agencies on chemical application oversight, and the same fundamentals come up again and again.
In the field, I see how often these fundamentals are the difference between a safe, well-run commercial pool and one that is exposed to unnecessary risk.
That’s why I put together this quick checklist of 10 safety and compliance items that every commercial pool team should review regularly. These are simple checks, but in the long run they make a big difference.
Save this checklist and review it with your team before the season gets too far along. It’s a practical way to make sure the basics are covered and your facility is operating with safety and compliance top of mind.
