What have you done recently to work ON your business, not just IN the business? It takes intentional action to create and sustain a successful organization.

Culture is the one thing that you must make an intentional effort to build or else the culture will develop on its own. You might not like what it evolves into. Get your hands dirty and do the hard work of shaping your values and more importantly, live them out!

Your example is a major factor in the success of the organization. Want big transformation in your business? Transform yourself first. What habits do you need to get rid of so that you can be the leader that you need to be?

Trust is one of the most impactful elements in building up strong employees. Empower them by extending trust to them. Allow them to do things their own way even if it's not quite how you would do them. Trust in their desire to do a good job and provide systems that enable them to do it.

You have 2 ears and 1 mouth so listen twice as much as you talk. Be open to feedback about your leadership and how you can serve your employees better. Don't wait for others to become frustrated, ask them for input on how you can make the organization better.

There are certain principles to success that anyone from an entry-level employee to a CEO can integrate into their daily life.

Continuous Learning - Read. Read. Read. Read. And then do more reading. It's incredible, the amount of knowledge we can gain by reading. DM me if you want some great book titles. You can find many of them at used bookstores. I like the under $5 books from SecondSale.

Effective Communication - Speak up when something needs to be said. Bring up ideas and concerns. Ask for help when you need it. Offer advice when it is requested.

Set Goals - Create improvement goals for yourself. Plan for how you will achieve the goals. See them through to the finish. Make simple but hard goals to build momentum. Whatever it is, do one more.

Work Efficiently - Be effective with your time. Understand your tendencies to be distracted. Know where your time goes. Determine priorities and get them done.

Serve Others - Above all else, choose to serve others. It doesn't matter what profession, or what level you are at, service always leads to success.

Do you know where the culture in your company comes from? Was it shaped and cultivated by the founder whose lofty vision inspired anyone in and around the organization? Or has it just evolved over time out of chaos and dysfunction?

Many companies have values and some actually live them out. You can see them in the interactions you have with the employees. You can feel them in the service you receive. And you can immediately tell when the leaders embody each one.

Workers will learn the real organizational values from their leaders, not from the employee handbook. Whether you are a leader or a follower, take the values seriously and be accountable to them.
