The approximately eight-acre development will include a mix of one- and two-story homes ranging from about 1,600 to 1,800 square feet. Once completed, the neighborhood will add 33 new homes designed with families in mind and provide more housing options for people who want to live and work in Athens.

HVAC and electrical contractors joined staff from the City and the Athens Economic Development Corporation Wednesday morning for an open discussion about City services.

“We invited the contractors to hear their ideas and get feedback on their experience working with the City and to discuss how we can help them better,” Community Development Manager Donna Meredith said.

The discussion focused on ways to make inspections smoother and communication clearer. City staff also introduced My Government Online (MGO), the City’s new online permitting and tracking system, to ensure contractors can follow projects and document timelines.

The meeting was moderated by Meredith and featured a panel of employees from the City's Development Services office. Also on hand were the mayor, city manager, and EDC board members.

"I think it went very well," said Director of Development Alan Anderson. "I think they gave us some good things to look at and try and improve, and in the same respect we were able to explain to them some of our processes and procedures."

Wednesday’s session was the first in what leaders hope will become a continuing outreach effort with area contractors.

The Athens Economic Development Corporation is proud to join communities across the country in celebrating National Manufacturing Week, taking place Oct. 3–10.

This week honors the people and companies who drive innovation, create jobs, and strengthen our local and national economies. From small workshops to advanced facilities, manufacturing remains at the heart of Athens’ growth and opportunity.

AEDC is proud to support our local manufacturers, whose investment and ingenuity fuel progress in Henderson County. Their contributions not only build our community but also inspire the next generation of engineers, technicians, and makers who will shape the future of American industry.

National Manufacturing Week began as Manufacturing Day in 2011, launched by the Manufacturing Institute and expanded through a partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau. The week highlights innovation, promotes technical careers, and celebrates the people whose skill and dedication keep our communities strong.
