REMINDER: A state of emergency has been declared in Massachusetts and we are urging drivers to keep the roads clear and avoid travel if at all possible.

Since midnight, the majority of Massachusetts State Police calls for service have been for disabled vehicles. Those vehicles require first responders, emergency workers, and tow trucks to be out on the roads in poor visibility conditions.

Please do your part and stay home if can to keep yourself and others safe.

Please stay off the roads during the storm. The safest place for you and your family is at home.

Saturday Feb 7 approx 10:55pm - Our full department was dispatched to North Main St for a reported motor vehicle versus tree with possible ejection of the operator.
On arrival of Orange Police Department, they located the operator next to their severely damaged vehicle, conscious with serious injuries. Shelburne Control initiated UMass Memorial LifeFlight to respond to Orange Airport.
Engine two and ambulance one along with call force personnel arrived on scene and had to extricate the operator from the bottom of the embankment back to the roadside.
The operator was driven to the airport and care transferred to the medical helicopter crew for transport to UMass.
Special shoutout to Dales Towing for another skillful removal of the vehicle.
Just after care was transferred to the
Helicopter crew, units were dispatched to a fire alarm activation, while Athol Fire Department handled a medical for us, as some units were still tied up at the accident scene.
All units were clear all incidents around 1:00am

❄️ Winter Storm Reminder – Please Read ❄️

We understand—we’re all New Englanders, and this isn’t our first rodeo with snow. That said, a significant winter storm is expected to arrive late Sunday into Monday with current forecasts calling for 1–2 feet of snow and “real feel” temperatures in the -20s, beginning as early as Saturday.

For everyone’s safety, we’re asking for the public’s help with a few important reminders:

• If you don’t need to travel, please stay home during the storm and for a period after it ends. This allows the Athol DPW to do what they do best, clear our roads safely and efficiently.

• The Athol Police Department does not want to tow vehicles. However, given the amount of snow forecasted, towing may become necessary if vehicles interfere with snow removal operations.

• Vehicles may be towed at any time of day if they are impeding snow removal. This is separate from and not to be confused with the overnight parking ban when vehicles are ticketed.

• We will make every reasonable effort to contact vehicle owners before a vehicle is towed. This applies to motor vehicles, trailers, campers, or any other items left on public ways.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as we prepare for this storm.

Please stay safe, stay warm, and look out for one another. 💙❄️
