I was 19 when I was hired to assist with a Ph.D. student's research and writing, which kicked off my communications career and took me around the world as a writer and educator in Ukraine, Turkey, Peru, and many others. I am a Certified Nonprofit Consultant credentialed by the National Association of Nonprofit Organizations and Executives (NANOE) and a proud member of the Society of Professional Consultants and the Association of Consultants to Nonprofits. I also hold an MA in Integrated Global Communication and a BA in International Studies from Berry College.
My time in the nonprofit world began more than 12 years ago as a volunteer and board member, morphed into a full-time staff member, side-noted into contract and freelance work, and has come full circle as a consultant obsessed with healing the cultural toxicity I witnessed too many times to count over the years. Nontoxic Nonprofits is the result of innumerable sleepless nights, brain dumps, and a-ha moments when I realized that my employer's (or client's) problem had nothing to do with why they hired me and everything to do with its crappy culture and communication practices.
