This February, we’re gathering for a four-part Black History Month series with Leading 4 Justice — a space to learn, reflect, and connect through stories that still shape our world today.

In moments when many of us are asking what is ours to do, Black history offers lessons in resistance, creativity, courage, and imagination.

✨ Four sessions. Four themes. One powerful month.
- We Resist!: Tomorrow, Feb 3 | 12–1pm
- The Harlem Renaissance: Feb 11 | 7–8pm
- Changemakers: Feb 17 | 12–1pm
- Afro-Futurism: Feb 25 | 3–4pm

Each gathering has its own date and registration, so you’re welcome to join one or all four.

Come ready for stories, interactive games, meaningful conversation — and giveaways 🎉

Day 7 | January 1
Imani (Faith)

Imani calls us to believe — in one another, in ourselves, and in the righteousness of the work we’re committed to.

Faith is not passive. It’s something we practice by showing up, staying rooted in community, and trusting that joy, culture, and collective care can sustain us for the long journey ahead. As we enter a new year, reflection becomes a way to renew that faith and carry it forward with intention.

🎵 Today’s song: “I Believe” by Soulstice
It’s hard not to feel more faith when you listen to this affirming and hopeful song.

💬 Reflection prompt:
What are you listening for as we enter 2026? What do you need to hear — from yourself, your community, your ancestors — to sustain your faith in the struggle?

Thank you for reflecting with us throughout the Spirit of Kwanzaa. May this practice carry you into the year ahead! 🌟

Day 6 | December 31
Kuumba (Creativity)

Kuumba reminds us that creativity is not extra, it’s essential.

It’s about imagining what doesn’t yet exist, making a way out of no way, and choosing to leave our communities more beautiful and beneficial than we found them. Every system, tradition, and movement began as an idea — nurtured by people willing to create, experiment, and act.

Creativity shows up in small, everyday choices as much as in big visions: noticing what’s missing, offering feedback, caring for shared spaces, or reimagining how things could be better.

🎵 Today’s song: “Tell Me” by Corinne Bailey Rae
It is a beautiful anthem that connects us to the brilliant, creative parts of ourselves.

💬 Reflection prompt:
How has listening sparked something new in you? What did you create, reimagine, or transform because of what you heard from others?

Reflect, then share by joining the conversation in the comments!

Day 5 | December 30
Nia (Purpose)

Nia invites us to live with intention — aligning our goals with a purpose larger than ourselves and in service of community.

Purpose doesn’t require doing everything at once. Some goals are for now, some are for later, and some unfold over a lifetime. Writing them down, visualizing what’s possible, learning from those who’ve walked the path before us, and prioritizing with care helps us move forward, one step at a time.

Every goal, held thoughtfully, can serve a bigger calling.

🎵 Today’s song: “Glory” by Common & John Legend
“That’s why we sing, glory, glory” — purpose rooted in liberation struggle.

💬 Reflection prompt:
What personal or shared purpose is emerging through the stories people are sharing with you?

Take a moment to reflect, then share by joining the conversation in the comments👇

Day 4 | December 29
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)

Ujamaa invites us to be intentional about where — and with whom — we invest our resources.

Over time, many of us have become more mindful about supporting Black-owned businesses and building economic ecosystems rooted in trust, accountability, and shared prosperity.

When communities circulate resources with care, everyone benefits.

🎵 Today’s song: “Black Gold” by Esperanza Spalding
A celebration of Black wealth, brilliance, and the richness we bring to each other.

💬 Reflection prompt:
What have you heard this year about what your community actually needs (not what you assumed they needed)? How did listening shape your choices about where to put your resources — time, money, energy?

Reflect, then join the conversation by sharing in the comments!

Day 3 | December 28
Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)

Ujima reminds us that community is something we do, not just something we belong to.

It shows up when people listen closely, step into complementary roles, and take shared responsibility for what needs to be done. It’s the quiet coordination, the mutual support, and the willingness to say: your problem is my problem, and we’ll figure it out together.

When everyone’s voice is heard, the load becomes lighter, and what once felt overwhelming becomes possible through collective care and action.

🎵 Today’s song: “We Are” by Jon Batiste
It reminds us, just as Barack Obama often does, that we are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

💬 Reflection prompt:
Describe a moment when listening helped you and others figure out how to share the load. What became possible when everyone’s voice was heard?

Reflect, then join the conversation by sharing in the comments 👇

Day 2 | December 27
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)

Kujichagulia calls us to define ourselves. To name our own stories and speak in our own voices, rather than being spoken for.

This principle often shows up as a daily practice: choosing when to move, when to stand, when to kneel, and how to take dominion over self. It asks us to live our values through the decisions we make and the actions we take — individually and collectively.

🎵 Today’s song: “Formation” by Beyoncé
Pure self-determination energy — defining ourselves on our own terms.

💬 Reflection prompt:
What have you been listening to within yourself — what voice, dream, or truth are you finally ready to speak aloud? When did you help create space for someone else to name their own story?

Take a moment to reflect, then share by joining the conversation in the comments!

Day 1 | December 26
Umoja (Unity)

Unity asks us to move beyond standing side by side and into working with one another.

Umoja reminds us that real change happens through teamwork: when we listen deeply, anticipate one another’s needs, strengthen what each person brings, and hold each other through our differences. This is how collective work becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

🎵 Today’s song: “Love Now” by Marieme
The song invites us to cultivate unity by practicing love with lyrics like “All we got is each other, all we got is today” and “I know we can change ‘cause we know how.”

💬 Reflection prompt:
When have you practiced listening to people with different identities from your own? What did you hear that surprised you or challenged your assumptions?

Take a moment to reflect, then share your thoughts by joining the conversation in the comments👇

Five years of Listening 4 Justice.
Five years of listening, learning, and walking toward racial healing, together.

As we close out the year, we’re honoring this milestone in a new way.

From December 26 – January 1, we invite you into the Spirit of Kwanzaa — an asynchronous, seven-day reflection rooted in the Nguzo Saba (the seven principles of Kwanzaa).

Each day, we’ll share:
- One Kwanzaa principle
- A song to carry you through the day
- A simple prompt for your own reflection

Take a few minutes to read, listen, and reflect. Then join the conversation by sharing your thoughts here in the comments.

At the end of the seven days, we’ll gather your reflections into our first Listener Voices collection — a living record of the wisdom, stories, and commitments of this community.

You’re already invited.
Join us starting December 26.

We’re kicking off December with a gathering dedicated to exploring Kwanzaa, a celebration of African-American culture created by activist Maulana Karenga and inspired by African harvest traditions across West, East, and Southeast Africa.

And we’re thrilled that this conversation will be led by Dr. Folami Prescott-Adams (), lovingly known in our community as the Queen of Kwanzaa for her depth of knowledge, lived experience, and longstanding commitment to sharing this tradition with others! 🎉

Youth and adults will come together for an hour of connection, listening, and learning, creating a welcoming space where questions about cultural and spiritual traditions are encouraged.

Whether you celebrate Kwanzaa or you’re curious to understand it more deeply, this Gathering is a chance to learn through listening and expand our sense of community:

✨ All questions welcome
✨ All ages welcome
✨ Curiosity encouraged

Join us as we explore the meaning, rituals, and principles of Kwanzaa together!
