How does an Atlanta house museum tackle changing times and culture? Head on! The Wren's Nest recently hosted a discussion about journalist and folklorist Joel Chandler Harris, best known for his Uncle Remus stories.

The Wren's Nest, along with local storytellers, historians, and academics, talked about the need for reinterpretation and what that can look like. Guests were then treated to the brand-new tour of the historic home.

If you missed the presentation, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M3-J_OjKlo

Thanks to Paige Sullivan for organizing and co-hosting the event, and to Jim Auchmuty for authoring and leading the tour. Go check it out!

Following its 2025 debut in Downtown Atlanta, the Atlanta Wind Phone has found a new home at Oakland Cemetery. A wind phone provides a safe space to share your feelings with the people you miss -- a memory, thoughts of love, or even something left unsaid.

On this date in history, June 30, 1936: Atlanta native Margaret Mitchell first published Gone With The Wind. The book went on to win the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was made into an Academy Award-winning film. More than 30 million copies have been printed worldwide.

If you're interested in learning more about Margaret Mitchell, her writing process, and how GWTW is viewed today, you can read my blog about the reenvisioned Margaret Mitchell House.

Following a series of renovations, the Margaret Mitchell House museum re-opened last summer with the new exhibit "Telling Stories: Gone With the Wind and American Memory," which examines how GWTW has influenced our collective memory and impacted our understanding of the Civil War and U.S. History. It explores Mitchell's upbringing and GWTW's relationship to the Lost Cause Ideology.

The Margaret Mitchell House has reopened with a new exhibit that contextualizes the author's life and explores how Gone With the Wind has shaped our collective memory of US history.

In Atlanta's Oakland Cemetery, it's not just loved ones who are memorialized. People also honor their faithful, four-legged companions. For , here's a blog I wrote for Oakland about the pets at rest with their families.

A cemetery is a place where we can visit, remember, and honor our lost loved ones and family. For some, those family members include their beloved pets.
