Spotted this Wind Phone while shopping at Mother Lode Market over the weekend. A is a beautiful tool for healing -- it's an unplugged phone placed in a peaceful setting that lets callers express their feelings in a safe space.

The first Wind Phone was created in Japan in 2010 by Itaru Sasaki as he grieved the loss of his cousin. He purchased an old phone booth and installed it in his garden, using the phone to communicate and connect with his lost loved one. Itaru said his words were carried into the wind, thus inspiring the name Wind Phone.

I hope Mother Lode adds its phone to the international Wind Phone map so others can find it. What would we do without our smartphones? They’ve become necessities, allowing us to make calls, send emails and messages, take pictures, listen to music and podcasts, and watch TV — all on one device.

There once was a time when all these tasks required a separate device. The Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville recently opened “Replaced by the Smartphone,” a gallery full of obsolete and little-used items.

You’ll see telegraphs, phones, mailboxes, paper publications, cameras, radios, computers, gaming consoles, and more.

There might be a few items you haven’t considered, like calculators, hotel keys, printed tickets, flashlights, store catalogues, credit card machines, clocks, timers, and address books.

Museum tour and a meditative sound bath — what a treat! The Fernbank Science Center has certainly upped its game since my last visit. I enjoyed the exhibits on honey bees, electricity, and space exploration, as well as the fossils and live reptiles.

My morning also included a sound bath in the planetarium — so peaceful! If you haven’t visited lately, go check it out! (Museum admission is free)

How does an Atlanta house museum tackle changing times and culture? Head on! The Wren's Nest recently hosted a discussion about journalist and folklorist Joel Chandler Harris, best known for his Uncle Remus stories.

The Wren's Nest, along with local storytellers, historians, and academics, talked about the need for reinterpretation and what that can look like. Guests were then treated to the brand-new tour of the historic home.
