Happy Black History Month! We take this time to celebrate and reflect on the importance of Black people in our local and global history.

The institutional racism and discrimination that Black people have experienced is a part of the fabric and collective history of this country and many others. While there is an active movement to erase this history (we're looking at you Florida) it is vital that all students know this history and learn of the achievements, hardships, resiliency, and valuable contributions Black people have made and continue to make to both our history and our culture.

Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! We honor the history, culture, and immeasurable contributions of our Latinx/e brothers and sisters whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South and Central America. Their influence on our economy, culture, and society should be acknowledged and celebrated daily.

As we continue on this journey we look forward to meeting more of you and working together to create a more equitable, inclusive and just future.

Sending love to the Asian American community, especially our Asian American sisters. Labeling this violent act as a "s*x crime" ignores the intersectionality and shameful history of the exotification of Asian women. It is a hate crime. This is yet another manifestation of white supremacy. We cannot solve what we refuse to make visible.

Happy Black History Month!

It's important to take some time to reflect on the importance Black people have played in our local and global history and what we can learn from this experience. The institutional racism and discrimination that Black people have experienced is part of the fabric and collective history of this country and many others.

While it is important to celebrate we also must educate. It is vital that all students know this history and learn of the valuable contributions Black people have made to both history and culture.
