Drivers — quick clarity on mouth-swab DOT tests, because we're getting asked:
The FDA did clear a big roadblock on Oct 6. But mouth-swab testing is NOT available for DOT tests yet.
Before any employer can use it, at least two labs still have to earn federal certification for oral-fluid testing. That hasn't happened yet.
So for now, your DOT test — including a Step 5 return-to-duty test — is still a urine test. Don't delay your test waiting on a swab option that isn't live yet.
