Avoidance is often misunderstood.
We call ourselves lazy.
Unmotivated.
Procrastinators.
But many forms of avoidance aren't about a lack of discipline.
They're about protection.
Sometimes we avoid difficult conversations because we're afraid of conflict.
Sometimes we avoid our emotions because they feel overwhelming.
Sometimes we stay busy because slowing down would force us to feel what we've been trying not to face.
The question isn't always:
"Why can't I deal with this?"
Sometimes the better question is:
"What am I protecting myself from?"
Healing doesn't begin when we force ourselves through our patterns.
It begins when we understand them.
Because what we meet with compassion often changes far more easily than what we meet with judgment.
Have you ever realized there was something underneath an avoidance pattern?
