I love this song!

After a number of leadership changes which diminished growth opportunities, this client was beginning to lose faith in her organization. We reconstructed her resume and began to attack the job market.

After a few coaching session during the interview process, she landed a senior position with Salesforce. But wait, it gets better…

After the offer, her current company gave her a promotion and an increase (in this , this is a retention tactic to keep employees from leaving). While this was a nice gesture, it was a little too late. We worked on negotiation practices and she went back to the recruiter to negotiate a higher offer because of the retention bonus from her current employer. The outcome is in the picture above. 💥 Lesson: Know your worth, articulate your value proposition, and do not be afraid to ask for more.

Here is your affirmation as we kick off the work week! Far too often, we do not embrace the word or the action of “challenge” in the workplace. The word generally has a negative connotation, especially for those who are not used to speaking up.

However, as an employee, it is your RESPONSIBILITY to speak up when you can provide an alternative idea for processes, policies, and the way the company operates. The most pivotal growth moments in your career will happen when you involve yourself in the solution, instead of sitting in the problem. When we challenge the status quo, we test our skills, we challenge ourselves, and we make others better!

Today is your reminder to: challenge the status quo. Whether you are happy at your current job or currently seeking a change, what difference are you making while you are there? How is your team/company improving as a result of your new ideas?

My mission is to help Black professionals and students earn their value in their careers by intersecting career strategy and personal development. In the wake of the , studies show that 48 percent of employees are actively searching for new opportunities and 38 percent of those they surveyed plan to make a change in the next six months.

Since the pandemic, the extra time at home has created an opportunity for employees to rethink their work situation. A great many have cited burnout, stress, and the feeling of being overlooked and underpaid as reasons for looking elsewhere. Now is the perfect time to reposition yourself at your job or in the market in a way that aligns with your value. Over the last 10 years, I’ve navigated the corporate sector and all of the challenges that come with being a double-minority in finance and leadership roles.
