As I looked around the room this week at the Progressive National Baptist Convention (PNBC) Annual General Session in Washington, D.C., I was reminded of something that has shaped my own journey in ministry and leadership:

No ministry can consistently grow beyond the leaders it intentionally develops.

What made this experience so meaningful wasn’t simply the opportunity to teach. It was watching senior pastors and ministry leaders openly discuss the challenges they face—developing volunteers, preparing the next generation of leaders, strengthening communication, navigating change, and building healthy leadership teams that can sustain the mission of the church.

Those conversations confirmed something I have witnessed throughout my career as an Air Force Chaplain, federal executive, and leadership consultant: people are the mission, and leaders multiply the mission.

It was a tremendous privilege to facilitate “The Ministry Multiplier: Building Leaders Who Multiply the Mission.” I am sincerely grateful to the Progressive National Baptist Convention for entrusting me with this opportunity and for creating a space where leadership development is recognized as an essential part of Kingdom impact.

My passion is helping pastors and ministry leaders build intentional leadership cultures through practical leadership development, executive coaching, Maxwell Leadership principles, and Maxwell Biblical DISC. When leaders understand themselves, communicate more effectively, and intentionally develop others, churches become healthier, stronger, and better equipped to fulfill God’s calling.

Thank you to everyone who attended, shared your experiences, asked thoughtful questions, and contributed to such a meaningful discussion. I left encouraged by your commitment to serving God’s people with excellence.

Stepping into a leadership role is an exciting milestone—but it also comes with new expectations, especially in interviews. You’re not just showcasing your skills anymore, you’re proving your potential to lead.

Here are 5 key things to remember when interviewing for your first supervisor or team lead role:

1️⃣ Think “We,” Not “Me”
Shift your language from individual achievements to team wins. Highlight how you supported others, not just what you delivered.

2️⃣ Show Leadership Without the Title
Don’t wait for a formal promotion to demonstrate leadership. Talk about times you mentored peers, led projects, or stepped up during challenges.
