The Ethics of Etiquette

Social Distancing and Social Interaction

In this pandemic, social distancing has become a normal point of instruction as a way to combat the coronavirus known as COVID-19. It is important to remember that people-to-people connection requires social interaction. Social interaction that is physically distanced is the appropriate method to practice. Please keep this in mind.

Gracefully yours,
Pauline

The Ethics of Etiquette
“Two Ears…”
Let’s talk diplomacy.

A person who is diplomatic uses tact and is sensitive to the feelings of others. The intentional and active use of diplomacy makes a difference in the establishment, nurture and retention of relationships. Relationships developed with the practice of humility and concern tend to last a long time.

We have two ears and one mouth for a reason. If we take the time to listen for understanding and not so much for response, there is less room for confusion. And, here’s another tip—the diplomatic person learns a lot about a topic (and a person) simply by mastering the art of listening.

Gracefully yours,
Pauline

The Ethics of Etiquette
Be Mindful of Spreading the News

The famous opening line of the popular Frank Sinatra song, "Theme from New York, New York", begins “Start spreadin’ the news…” Have you ever really considered the effects of spreading the news?

Please use diplomacy when sharing information that has been broadcast through various media outlets and data that has not been thoroughly researched and validated as truth. The practice of etiquette is the respect for the customary code of behavior and procedural rules specific to particular situations. When we practice etiquette and diplomacy, we listen to hear, to learn and to act with care and concern.

It is good to read material for self-awareness and understanding, ask industry experts for clarity and learn to grow in the process. It is improper, however, to share invalid information as newsworthy. Such behavior can be detrimental to the good of the intent and can have ineffective results:
--Impacts the reader’s emotional intelligence
--Impairs the reader’s decision-making abilities
--Ignites irrefutable damage.

As we adjust to these new conditions of uncertainty and critical awareness, please remember to connect and engage with wisdom, respect, sensitivity and grace. We will be the better for our choices and more apt to prepare for our Best that is yet to come!

Gracefully yours,
Pauline
