The Ethics of Etiquette
Be Mindful of Spreading the News
The famous opening line of the popular Frank Sinatra song, "Theme from New York, New York", begins “Start spreadin’ the news…” Have you ever really considered the effects of spreading the news?
Please use diplomacy when sharing information that has been broadcast through various media outlets and data that has not been thoroughly researched and validated as truth. The practice of etiquette is the respect for the customary code of behavior and procedural rules specific to particular situations. When we practice etiquette and diplomacy, we listen to hear, to learn and to act with care and concern.
It is good to read material for self-awareness and understanding, ask industry experts for clarity and learn to grow in the process. It is improper, however, to share invalid information as newsworthy. Such behavior can be detrimental to the good of the intent and can have ineffective results:
--Impacts the reader’s emotional intelligence
--Impairs the reader’s decision-making abilities
--Ignites irrefutable damage.
As we adjust to these new conditions of uncertainty and critical awareness, please remember to connect and engage with wisdom, respect, sensitivity and grace. We will be the better for our choices and more apt to prepare for our Best that is yet to come!
Gracefully yours,
Pauline
